Just because.....

While sitting around with my gorgeous wife Mary watching BBC America - Home Page, we were engaged in a conversation that I am sure is being played out in almost every household these days. Politics/politicians, oil/gasoline, Dems/Republicans and who is to blame for what. Without getting into specifics, I must say, "we do have opposing views on some of this gar-bage." And, we both have valid arguments to support our view.

However, much of the differences people have in "politics" comes down to party lines, Democrats vs Republicans. THIS, is the root of alot of the dissension. Instead of two parties, that are both screwed up, why don't we just have "common sense" representatives. If YOU need vote designation groups, they can be "the informed" and "the uninformed". An example could be, "the folks that voted for the oil companies excessive profits tax" could be "the uninformed". The folks that voted against it could be "the informed". Is taxing the "excessive", supposedly, profits going to put more oil on the market at a reasonable price? NOT! Is giving the oil companies incentives to explore new alternatives and explore for new oil reserves, i.e. the Russians, going to help YOUR situation with gasoline etc.? Probably!

The hell with what party does what or is what or is called what. What we need is some people with some innate "common sense". Preferably now and not later!

While having a number of conversations with people from Kentucky, Vancouver, Belgium, New York and Indiana and Orlando, the general consensus of these folks was, their presidential choice, at this point, will depend on who the candidates select as vp. That is how poorly both of our presidential candidates are looked upon. if the vp choices suck, then most of these people, as well as myself, will either do a write in vote, or, NOT VOTE AT ALL! As of June 11, 2008, "nuff said"!

Red Wine May Protect Heart From Aging

WASHINGTON (June 3) - A natural compound found in red wine may protect the heart against the effects of the aging process, researchers said on Tuesday.

In their study, mice were given a diet supplemented with the compound known as resveratrol starting at their equivalent of middle age until old age.

These mice experienced changes in their gene activity related to aging in a way very similar to mice that were placed on a so-called calorie restriction diet that slows the aging process by greatly cutting dietary energy intake.

Most striking was how the resveratrol, like calorie restriction, blocked the decline in heart function typically associated with aging, according to Tomas Prolla, a University of Wisconsin professor of genetics who helped lead the study.

Much as Spaniard Juan Ponce de Leon once searched for the mythical fountain of youth, researchers now are seeking ways to extend the quality and length of human life.

In some studies, animals given a diet with greatly reduced caloric intake have lived longer than animals with normal diets. But perpetual hunger is a steep price to pay for greater longevity, some researchers say.

Resveratrol, found in abundance in grapes and in red wine, has drawn a lot of interest from scientists and some companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, which in April said it would pay $720 million to buy Sirtris Pharmaceuticals Inc, a company that is developing drugs that mimic the effects of resveratrol.

Some studies have shown that in high doses, resveratrol extended the life span of fruit flies and worms and prevented early death in mice fed a high-fat diet.

In this study, mice were given relatively low doses compared to the earlier research, and still experienced important aging-related benefits, the researchers said.

The researchers began giving the resveratrol diet to the mice when they were 14 months old -- their middle age -- and followed the animals until they were about 30 months old. The researchers then conducted tests on cardiac function and on gene activity related to aging.

"Resveratrol at low doses can retard some aspects of the aging process, including heart aging, and it may do so by mimicking some of the effects of caloric restriction, which is known to retard aging in several tissues and extend life span," added Prolla, whose study was published in the scientific journal PLoS ONE.

Using a method that permits simultaneous analysis of thousands of genes at the same time, the researchers found a huge overlap in the genes whose activity were changed by resveratrol and caloric restriction.

They looked at the heart, brain and muscles, and said that the effect of resveratrol was strongest in the heart but did prevent some aging-related changes in the other tissues.

Just because mice had these benefits does not mean people also would, although Prolla said, "I think there's a high likelihood that our findings are applicable to humans."

He said he expected to see a lot of studies in the coming years on the effects of resveratrol supplementation in people.

Some funding for the study came from DSM Nutritional Products, a company based in Basel, Switzerland that produces a resveratrol product called Resvida.

Madison, Wisconsin-based LifeGen Technologies, a genomics company that Prolla helped found, took part in the research.

Well, it looks like Barack Obama is going to get the nod to run for president. Seems that he has crossed the line for the number of delegates needed to get the nomination. Thanks to the wimpy mush brained "super delegates". "What in the hell were YOU idiots thinking?" Oh, that's right, "YOU didn't want to seem racist and offend blacks". My bad. Doesn't matter if YOU literally "screw" the women again. I guess your philosophy there is, "hell, we've been dissing women for so long, one more time wont matter". That is why I am no longer a democrat. "YOU people are freaking idiots!"

Hang in there Hillary. The Universe and the Earth have ways of making things work out to the way they should be. YOU pretty much have proven that YOU are the "peoples" candidate. Bo Diddley Crosses Over

Rock 'n' Roll Icon Bo Diddley Dies at 79

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 2) - Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.

Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.

"One of the founding fathers of rock 'n' roll has left the building he helped construct," the statement said.

I have some history with Bo. I first became familiar with him when I would see him perform at the Apollo Theater in New York when I was a kid. Since I had family that managed the theater, I got access to backstage where I met Bo and hung out. He showed me his famous Bo Diddley "guitar lick". This inspired me to want to play guitar.

As life went on, our paths crossed again and again performing on stage together and doing shows together. The last couple of shows I remember doing with Bo were in the 80's and 90's in Florida and Pa.

One of the funniest memories I have of Bo, is the story he told me about his place in Florida and snakes. At his property in the Gainesville area, he was having alot of problems with snakes. So, Bo put an electric wire around his whole property 2 inches off the ground. Enough juice ran through the wire to shock and discourage any snakes. It was not set high enough to kill them though. Bo didn't play that snake stuff. I always thought that was a pretty cool way to keep snakes off your property.

On May 29th of 2008, I had the pleasure of experiencing something that unfortunately, far too many of us do not get a chance to witness in this day and age anymore. My kid "graduating" high school! How cool is that? It was awesome. And even though our son is very intelligent, if it were not for his mother, my incredible wife Mary, who knows if this would have taken place in the time and manner that it did.

One of the main reasons for the low graduation rates in this country today is, the non involvement of too many parents in their childrens lives period. Far too many kids have NO guidance or support from their parents or other family members. If your kids are still in school, start pitching in with their lives and education. Then, maybe YOU will get to participate in this most gratifying and satisfying event.

Volcano Erupts on Galapagos Islands

QUITO, Ecuador (May 31) - A volcano on the largest of the Galapagos Islands has begun erupting and authorities are evaluating possible dangers to the island's famed plant and animal life, officials said Friday.

Rangers and tour guides spotted lava flowing down the northeastern flank of the Cerro Azul volcano on the seahorse-shaped island of Isabela late Thursday, the Galapagos National Park said in a statement.

Ecuador's Geophysics Institute said that satellite data and a flyover of the island by park officials showed a "small amount of ash" coming out of the volcano, located on the southwestern edge of the island.

Park official Oscar Carvajal told Radio Quito that as many as four lava flows "have consumed a lot of vegetation," but do not pose a threat to the famed Galapagos tortoises.

Neither was the eruption endangering people on the island, park official Vinicio Pauta said.

The 5,600-foot Cerro Azul - one of five active volcanoes on the island - last erupted in September 1998, causing minor damage to plant life. Cerro Azul is located in the unpopulated southwestern corner of the island.

In the last eruption, rare tortoises were airlifted from around the crater on helicopters to escape the lava, but several massive turtles were burned, according to a report from Reuters.

"I could see the red glow from my house last night," said Jacqueline Brunf, a New York native who owns a tour operator business on another of the islands, told Reuters. "It was really strange we didn't feel anything or hear anything."

The Galapagos Islands, 625 miles off of Ecuador's Pacific coast, are known for unique plant and animal life, including giant tortoises, marine iguanas and seabirds known as blue-footed boobies. Charles Darwin's observations of the islands' finches helped inspire his theory of evolution.

And another volcano blows it's top in South America. I wrote about some of the Galapagos Islands volcanos in "Dragon, Book Of Shang". That makes 3 South American countries that my dragon visited in my book that now have active volcanos erupting. Interesting.

By the way, Chaitan, in Chile, has now entered a new phase as of May 24th and is spewing lava. Not a good place to be right now. Mother Earth will have her way!

Iceland rocked by earthquake

An earthquake shook southern Iceland on Thursday, reportedly causing injuries and damaging roads and buildings.

A seismograph at the Institute of the Earth Sciences, University of Iceland, shows earthquake activity.

The 6.1 magnitude temblor struck about 3:46 p.m. (11:46 a.m. ET), according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Its epicenter was about 50 km (31 miles) east-southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, and was about 10 km (6.2 miles) below the Earth's surface.

It was unclear exactly how many people were injured or the severity of their injuries, Olli Tynes, a journalist with Reykjavik's Channel 2, told CNN.

A hospital in a town near the epicenter was also reported damaged, and some wings have had to be evacuated, he said.

There were no reports of fatalities, but "great material damage," Tynes said. Roads and bridges in the area have been closed.

The Associated Press, quoting civil defense authorities, reported 15 to 20 people from Selfoss, near the epicenter, were taken for medical treatment.

Iceland's emergency management agency has swung into action, and rescue crews were headed to the area most affected by the quake.

Tynes said he has been speaking to residents of the towns closest to the epicenter. "They said they thought the world was coming to an end," he said. "They thought they were going to die."

There have been no reports of homes collapsing, as most homes in Iceland are built to withstand earthquakes, he said.

Alti Mar Gylfason said he had received reports of damage to the road that rings the island nation. The quake was felt nationwide, he said.

"It was a little bit like you're sleeping in a waterbed, you know ... everything floats around," he said, adding that people poured out of buildings into the street. "This is not something we experience on a normal basis."

Although Iceland is seismically active, its last major quakes were on June 17 and June 21, 2000, with quakes of 6.5 and 6.4, respectively. The temblors damaged homes and buildings, but caused no serious injuries.

As I write this, I am hoping all of my friends in Iceland are alright. Since finishing my book, "Dragon, Book Of Shang", I have a special place in my heart for Iceland. Peace and safety to all in Iceland.

Arctic Ice Cap Melting?

Vast cracks appear in Arctic ice

Dramatic evidence of the break-up of the Arctic ice-cap has emerged from research during an expedition by the Canadian military.

Scientists travelling with the troops found major new fractures during an assessment of the state of giant ice shelves in Canada's far north.

The team found a network of cracks that stretched for more than 10 miles (16km) on Ward Hunt, the area's largest shelf.

The fate of the vast ice blocks is seen as a key indicator of climate change.

One of the expedition's scientists, Derek Mueller of Trent University, Ontario, told me: "I was astonished to see these new cracks.

"It means the ice shelf is disintegrating, the pieces are pinned together like a jigsaw but could float away," Dr Mueller explained.

According to another scientist on the expedition, Dr Luke Copland of the University of Ottawa, the new cracks fit into a pattern of change in the Arctic.

"We're seeing very dramatic changes; from the retreat of the glaciers, to the melting of the sea ice.

"We had 23% less (sea ice) last year than we've ever had, and what's happening to the ice shelves is part of that picture."

When ice shelves break apart, they drift offshore into the ocean as "ice islands", transforming the very geography of the coastline.

Last year, I was part of a BBC team that joined Dr Mueller and Dr Copland as they carried out the first research on Ayles Ice Island, an iceberg the size of Manhattan.

It has since split into two, each vast chunk of ice now 400 miles (640km) south of its original position.

The rapid changes in the Arctic have reignited disputes over territory.

The Canadian military's expedition was billed as a "sovereignty patrol", the lines of snowmobiles flying Canadian flags in a display of control.

After the record Arctic melting last year, all eyes are now on what happens to the sea ice this summer.

Although its maximum extent last winter was slightly greater than the year before, it was still below the long-term average.

Pac-Man is chomping his way toward the big screen. One of five films funded by a $200 million Crystal Sky Pictures deal announced in Cannes this week, Pac-Man -- the movie -- has been greenlit for production.

Crystal Sky also hired Paul Anderson (Resident Evil) to write a blood-sucking screenplay adaptation of the late-'80s vampire-themed Castlevania videogame from Konami.

Good videogames historically make bad movies, so gamers will doubtless keep a critical eye on these movies-in-progress.

Fanboys certainly didn't hold back last month when news broke about Crystal Sky's highest-profile project to date. Learning about the company's 3-D remake of Ghost in the Shell to be directed by Steven Spielberg, some anime purists criticized the decision to tinker with a classic.

Now this, I have to see! A Pac-Man movie. If nothing else, curiosity should get YOU to the theatre for this. Maybe by the time this makes the movies, marijuana will be legal and we will really be able to get into a Pac-Man movie. lol

Astronomers Baffled by Bizarre Star

Astronomers are baffled after finding an exotic type of star called a pulsar apparently locked in an elongated orbit around a star much like the sun -- an arrangement defying what had been known about such objects.

The rapidly spinning pulsar -- an extraordinarily dense object created when a massive star exploded as a supernova -- is called J1903+0327 and is located about 21,000 light years from Earth, the astronomers said.

A light year is about 6 trillion miles, the distance light travels in a year.

"The big question is -- how in the heck did this thing form, because it doesn't follow our standard models of how these things form," astronomer Scott Ransom of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Charlottesville, Virginia, said in a telephone interview on Thursday.

This object is known as a millisecond pulsar because of its speedy whirl -- it spins on its axis 465 times per second.

"The reason why we're so excited about this is the impact it might have on our understanding of where the pulsars that we look at are coming from," David Champion, an astronomer at Canada's McGill University, told SPACE.com. "We've never seen anything like this before."

Until now, all of the ones found orbiting with another star have been doing so with a white dwarf, another type of dying star. In each case, they shared a perfectly circular orbit. But this one has a very elongated orbit around a star similar in size and composition to our sun.

"What we have found is a millisecond pulsar that is in the wrong kind of orbit around what appears to be the wrong kind of star," astronomer David Champion of the Australia Telescope National Facility said in a statement. "Now we have to figure out how this strange system was produced."

It was detected using a radio telescope in Puerto Rico.

Pulsars are a rare type of neutron star whose strong magnetic fields channel lighthouse-like beams of light and radio waves that whirl around as the star spins.

Typical pulsars spin once a second to about 10 or 20 times a second. But millisecond pulsars spin far more rapidly.

The understanding had been that these started out as typical, slower-spinning pulsars, then built up speed after material expelled from another star reached the pulsar's surface, giving it momentum.

"If you were to ask any astronomer if we would have found a system like this, they would have said no. So this is a very big surprise," Ransom said.

The scientists, writing in the journal Science, speculate a third star -- perhaps a neutron star or white dwarf -- might be orbiting with the other two. Scientists know of about 100 pulsars in two-star, or binary, systems, and this might be the first in a triple-star system, Ransom said.

Okay, so, we have crazy volcano activity, major earthquakes, serious cyclones and all kinds of other weird or normal events taking place here on Earth these days, and now, unprecedented never before seen phenomena taking place in space. It's not even 2012 yet. Hopefully, this new event will give up or, lead to some more answers.

Steve Irwin Wannabe, NOT!

Volusia County deputy violated policy when he tried to wrestle 8-foot alligator

A Volusia County deputy sheriff violated department policy when he tried to wrestle an alligator late Thursday in a Deltona apartment complex parking lot.

Volusia County Deputy Sheriff Keith Baughman, 39, was bitten on the left leg, near knee, in the parking lot of Brightside Apartments on Caribbean Street in Deltona. He is in stable condition today at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he was airlifted after the attack.

The first deputy on the scene followed procedure and called for a licensed trapper, said Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught. When Baughman arrived, "he decided to try to handle the alligator," Haught said.After placing a towel over the 8-foot gator's head, Baughman got the on animal's back, Haught said.

The alligator was able to throw him off and bit him.

At that point, Deputy Jason Stickels fired several shots at the gator, although he did not kill the animal, Haught said. A trapper removed the alligator.

Baughman does not face any serious discipline because of his actions, but there likely will be a supervisor's review, Haught said. "It was just a bad decision, that's all.

Law enforcement officers who encounter a problem alligator should not hesitate to use their guns to kill it, state wildlife officials said today.

"The best thing to do is to leave them alone," said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill. In some cases, officers can lasso a gator and tie it to a tree until wildlife officers or trappers can arrive to deal with it, she said. But law enforcement officers are there to protect the public and shouldn't hesitate to shoot an alligator, Hill said.

As the animal lover that I am, "people get NO SYMPATHY from me when they cause an animal to be put down". "Whip those guns out and fire away. I don't know about YOU, but, I am sick to death of Campaign '08. Why? Because of all the ignorance, stupidity, naievete, racism and just plain old "dumbass". It disgusts me how the "media" are just fawning and falling all over Barack Hussein Obama. And now, The Breck Girl, as Rush Limbaugh calls him, John Edwards, has endorsed and thrown his support to Obama. WOW, isn't that great getting the support of a bigtime loser like that. That should really nail it for Obama. Hell, Edwards couldn't even win his own state in the primaries.

This whole campaign thing needs to stop, and, start over again with different rules and different candidates. Right now it is a devisive racist event. Almost all the black folks voting for Obama. Simply because he's black. Which, he really isn't. Just like me, "he is multi racial". While most all of the white folks are voting for Hillary.

Obama has too much baggage. His name is Obama. His resume is too short and spotted with NO significant track record. His wife is a negative. And crunching the numbers, "sorry, whites still way outnumber blacks". "Barack, YOU lose". So, YOU and all your "bandwagon ignorant super delegates" ride off into the sunset and lick your wounds. Clean up your act and come back in 2012. Maybe YOU will get elected then before the Mayan Calender runs out.

CHENGDU, China (May 12) - The death toll from a powerful earthquake that toppled buildings, schools and chemical plants climbed to nearly 10,000 in the worst-hit province Tuesday, while untold numbers remain trapped after the worst quake in three decades.

The 7.9-magnitude quake Monday devastated a region of small cities and towns set amid steep hills north of Sichuan's provincial capital of Chengdu. Striking in mid-afternoon, it emptied office buildings across the country in Beijing, could be felt as far away as Vietnam and in Chengdu crashed telephone networks and hours later left parts of the city of 10 million in darkness.

As I am sure most of YOU know that the Chaiten Volcano in Chile has been erupting for a week or more now. Though there has not been a lava flow down the mountain as of yet, it is still causing much damage, destruction and worry. Scientist are saying that this volcano could keep erupting for months to come. The ash and gases cloud that it is, and has, put out, is causing many problems that are likely to effect way more than just Chile. Supposedly, it is still to early to tell how this "cloud" will effect weather patterns and climate

Neil Young to release archive on Blu-ray discs

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Rocker Neil Young plans to release his entire music archive on Blu-ray discs, a sign that the discs' capabilities are building appeal among musicians as well as movie studios.

Blu-ray discs hold much more data than DVDs, are easily updated over the Internet and offer better picture and sound quality.

Young revealed his plans Tuesday at a Sun Microsystems Inc. (JAVA) (JAVA) conference in San Francisco. Santa Clara-based Sun makes the Java technology that gives Blu-ray discs their interactive menus and ability to accept updates over an Internet connection.

The first installment of Young's archive will cover the years 1963 to 1972 and will be released as a 10-disc set this fall on Reprise/Warner Bros. Records.

Young said the archives will be released chronologically and include some previously unreleased songs, videos, handwritten manuscripts and other memorabilia, in addition to the high-resolution audio that Blu-ray technology is known for.

Fans can download more content like songs, photos and tour information directly to the Blu-ray discs as the content becomes available.

Blu-ray's rival format HD DVD effectively died with maker Toshiba Corp.'s announcement in February that it will no longer produce HD DVD players.

Most of the Blu-ray discs manufactured so far have been used for high-definition movies.

Musical artists such as AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen and Destiny's Child released concert videos on Blu-ray discs, but Young's support of the technology for his ambitious archive project demonstrates more fully the capabilities of Blu-ray as a music medium.

Earlier technology didn't offer the ability to browse archive material while listening to songs in high-resolution audio, Young noted.

"Previous technology required unacceptable quality compromises," he said in a statement. "I am glad we waited and got it right."

As a Neil Young fan, this should be great news. Got to keep up with the technology as it is constantly evolving. Personally, I would like to see the same thing with the Blu-ray done with Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone, Bob Marley & Led Zeppelin. And of course, Enigma! Hopefully, we will get all of these.

If the late great comedian Richard Pryor were here today, I could imagine him saying something to the effect of, "what the f*#k is wrong with you people, are you stupid"? Hey Richard, "yeah, they are".

Recently, I started listening to the Rush Limbaugh radio show. Since I believe in giving credit where it is due, I must say, "the guy is very intelligent and on point more than not". However, I can't say that for most of his listeners. He has this thing going where he gets his Republican listeners to switch parties in primaries/caucuses and vote for Hillary Clinton to help her get a win and stay in the presidential campaign. This, supposedly, creates "chaos" within the Democratic party between Clinton and Obama supporters and delegates. Which in turn, keeps the party divided for so long that by the general election, they are to battered and bruised to put up a good fight against McCain and the Republicans. A strategy they may work or not. The point is however, "don't you people have better things to do than running back and forth to your election office and switching your registration"? YOU, are freaking LOSERS! Don't YOU have a brain of your own? And as much as I hate to say it, most of this group of people are "white". Speaking of which, "why do YOU people keep throwing your support behind Obama"? "Are YOU blind, deaf and dumb"? WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Black folks, "what is your problem"? Oh, I know, "YOU were blinded by the color of his skin". That is an excellent reason to vote for someone. Hey, with that reasoning, no wonder black people have not come any further than they are. Barack Obama has done NOTHING significant in government. He is still wet behind the ears. He carries way to much negative baggage with him. AND, as witnessed in North Carolina this week, he is not campaigning to the black community because he knows he doesn't have to. He knows "blacks" are going to vote for him regardless. Excuse me, but, "isn't that a diss on YOU"? Come on people, wake yourselves up. Wouldn't YOU rather vote for someone who is going to help YOU excel and move forward instead of someone who is going to promise YOU the government will bail YOU out and keep YOU indebted to them? OPYN Your MINDZ and stop listening to these so-called reverends and race baiters that want to keep crap going so that they can prosper.

Roger Waters Wants His Pig Back

LOS ANGELES (April 29) - Organizers of a major California music festival are offering a $10,000 reward and four festival tickets for life in exchange for ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters' two-story inflatable pig, which was lost Sunday night.

Waters' signature pig was seen floating away during his closing set at the three-day Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, held in the desert east of Los Angeles.

The giant flying pig, part of Pink Floyd's stage show since their 1977 album "Animals" featuring the song "Pigs on the Wing," broke free from its tethers above the Coachella crowd and drifted off.

It's not the first time Waters has lost his flying pig. Back in 1977, it floated away on the second day of a photo shoot at the Battersea Power Station in London and was later recovered and used for an album cover.

Waters was a member of British rock band between 1965 and 1985. He and the band continued to use the pig as a stage prop even after he quit, and at Coachella Waters played classic Pink Floyd songs including "Mother," "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Have a Cigar" and "Dark Side of the Moon."

Coachella was named one of the top three festivals in the country by music magazine Billboard. Last year, the festival attracted more than 186,000 music and art lovers, and grossed $16.2 million, according to the magazine.

Jimi Hendrix Returns as a Sex Tape Star?

LOS ANGELES (April 29) - A videotape said to show rock guitar great Jimi Hendrix having sex with two women was released for sale on the Internet Tuesday, following a wave of stars, alive and dead, showing up in homemade porn.

The 11 minutes of footage of a man resembling Hendrix cavorting with two unidentified brunettes in a dimly lit bedroom is packaged in a 45-minute DVD distributed by Los Angeles adult-film studio Vivid Entertainment.

Vivid, which also distributed the notorious sex tape of actress Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee, among others, said in a press release that its Hendrix footage was shot about 40 years ago in a hotel room and was unearthed by a rock 'n' roll memorabilia collector.

Hendrix, considered one the greatest rock guitarists of all time with such hits as "Hey Joe," "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady," died in 1970 at age 27 in London.

"This new movie shows that Jimi Hendrix could have been as great a porn star as he was a rock star," Vivid co-chairman, Steven Hirsch, said in the release.

The film's authenticity, however, was immediately challenged by some. The musician's longtime girlfriend during the 1960s, Kathy Etchingham, told the New York Times after viewing still photos taken from the footage: "It is not him."

"His face is too broad and nose and nostrils too wide for Jimi," she was quoted as telling the Times via e-mail.

Charles R. Cross, author of the noted Hendrix biography "Room Full of Mirrors," also disputed the identity of the man in the tape, who sports a large Afro hairstyle and head band.

"It doesn't add up to Jimi," Gross told the Times, saying he had encountered the film during his book research and dismissed it, as have others, as a fake.

But Vivid said it consulted with several experts to authenticate the footage, including Pamela Des Barres, author of the book "I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie," and Cynthia Albritton, better known as Cynthia Plaster Caster, famed for making plaster molds of celebrities' genitals, including those of Hendrix.

Both women appear on the DVD, titled, "Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape," offering their commentary.

"They both immediately had the same reaction: 'I can't believe it, it's Jimi Hendrix,"' Hirsch quoted the two women as saying when they first viewed the footage.

DEAL FOR RIGHTS

Vivid bought the tape from an individual distributor, Howie Klein, who had approached Vivid after purchasing it from the collector who found it, Hirsch said.
Hirsch told Reuters that private investigators hired by Vivid's lawyers later tracked down the man who claimed to have shot the footage in 8-millimeter color film, and Vivid struck a deal with him for rights to commercially distribute it.

"That's why we believe in fact that we own the copyright," he said.

Bob Merlis, spokesman for Experience Hendrix, the Seattle company owned by the musician's relatives that controls rights to his music, said, "We're in no position to verify" the tape's authenticity.

He declined further comment, saying only that rights to Hendrix's likeness remain an unsettled legal issue.The sex tape DVD, which retails for $39.95, was available for sale online at http://www.hendrixsextape.com/ and will be available in stores starting next Tuesday, Hirsch said.

Distribution of the Hendrix tape comes two weeks after a New York businessman purchased a 15-minute film of Marilyn Monroe engaging in oral sex. But the broker of that deal said the buyer planned to keep the film out of public view.

Look, I have not seen this tape/footage yet, so, I really cannot comment on whether this is Jimi or not. Having known Jimi from the time he first came to New York, although not a close relationship, if he in fact did this tape, "it would not surprise me". Though he was mostly a fairly quiet private person, he did have his times where he "aired it out" so to speak, with the best of them.

Get ready: There's a new Grand Theft Auto game about to roll out this week, and we're probably in for a burst of discussion about violent video play.

I've never found it likely that bloody video games cause bad behavior in kids, but then again, I'd also never pass any of my old copies of the games to a child. So I'm a little unsure about how to react to a recent study showing that the game is more popular than any other among 12- to 14-year-old boys.

"GTA IV" is almost inevitably going to be one of the biggest game releases in a year that is already looking like a prosperous one for the industry. Market research firm NPD said that Americans expect to spend less on entertainment this year, yet they're also going to spend more than ever on video games. Video game sales jumped 57 percent in March, compared with the same month last year, according to the firm.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is practically an industry unto itself. Electronic Arts has attempted a hostile takeover of the game's publisher this year with an offer valued at $2 billion. One analyst has even speculated that the new game could dampen opening weekend ticket sales for "Iron Man," the comic-book-inspired action movie starring Robert Downey Jr. The film premieres a few days after the game's release.

Like its predecessors, Grand Theft Auto IV is rated "M" (for "Mature"), and stores are only allowed to sell it to folks ages 17 and up. The game industry's ratings board has even spelled out the types of content that could make parents squirm. The game, to be released Tuesday for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, hits all the hot buttons: It contains "blood," "intense violence," "partial nudity," "strong language," "strong sexual content" and "use of drugs and alcohol."

The game's developer, Rockstar, has mostly kept quiet about the storylines of its latest game, set in Liberty City, a satirical version of New York City. Previous installments of the best-selling games have all followed the paths of young strivers who go from rags to riches, building careers as gangster kingpins. On the way, there tend to be a few zillion explosions, flattened pedestrians and rival gangs that need to get squeezed out.

Soaring global food prices could unleash a “silent tsunami” that would plunge 100 million people who previously did not require help to buy food into hunger and poverty, the top United Nations food official said at a conference on the growing crisis in London. “This is the new face of hunger,” the official, Josette Sheeran, the executive director of the World Food Program, added. “The response calls for large-scale, high-level action by the global community.” She was one of 25 experts in the field who attended the conference hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at his Downing Street office. Prices for basic foods like rice and wheat have risen rapidly since the last quarter of 2007, leading to riots and protests in a number of countries. In the latest unrest, demonstrators took to the streets in the Afghan city of Jalalabad and the Gabonese capital, Libreville. A statement from Mr. Brown’s office released after the meeting said that delegates had pledged to work with the G-8 and European Union toward a global strategy to tackle price rises and increase support for the world’s poorest nations. There was also agreement for a “more selective approach” to biofuels, cited by some for causing the food price surge.

This article alone speaks volumns about how "screwed up" we are on this planet these days. With all of our technology and advancements in everything(except common sense), here we are in this century facing food shortages. Somebody, please, "wake me up and tell me this is a dream". What rocket scientist came up with the idea of "burning up our food supply to make fuel"? Can YOU say "ethanol"? Along with "weapons of mass destruction" and "global warming", ethanol is the biggest F YOU this century.

Mankind needs a "major wake up call" and, "we better get one real soon".
