'Jaws' Chief Brody Dies

'Jaws' Star Roy Scheider Dies at 75

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 11) - Roy Scheider, a one-time boxer whose broken nose and pugnacious acting style made him a star in "The French Connection" and who later uttered one of cinematic history's most memorable lines in "Jaws," has died. He was 75.

Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. There is conflicting information regarding why the actor died, however he had been sick in recent years

The hospital did not release a cause of death, but Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years. Scheider's widow, Brenda Seimer, told the New York Times that the actor died of complications from a staph infection.

Scheider earned two Academy Award nominations - a best-supporting nod for 1971's "The French Connection" in which he played the police partner of Oscar winner Gene Hackman, and a best-actor nomination for 1979's "All That Jazz," the semi-autobiographical Bob Fosse film.

I don't know about YOU, but, "Jaws is one of the coolest pictures and stories ever done. I do not think anyone else could have played their parts any better than the people/stars who did Jaws. Roy Scheider was excellent as the Chief of Amity. I know one of the best movie lines ever is "your gonna need a bigger boat". However, right before that line was said, Chief Brody uttered one of my all time favorite lines. Though directed at Quint, Brody was actually speaking to no one when he said, "let him come down here and chum some of this sh-t". "I can go full ahead".

Rest in peace Roy. Hopefully, we will see YOU again on the other side.
