"Naked Sushi", Naked(almost)Woman, Where's The Fish

Ancient Japanese 'Naked Sushi' Tradition Catches On in Florida

The "naked sushi" trend — you know, the one "Sex and the City" Samantha latched onto in the hit movie as a way of tantalizing her boyfriend — has been bait for geisha partygoers in Japan for centuries.

Now, it's catching on in Florida, according to The St. Petersburg Times.

A club in Clearwater has attracted open-mouthed patrons after adopting the tradition, which involves serving raw fish delicacies straight off the body of a barely clothed woman.

On a recent night at the swanky lounge, known as The Dirty Martini, Chef David Keir seductively took off the model's black kimono, leaving her in nothing but a teeny G-string and flower-shaped pasties, the Times reported.

The woman lay on a small stage in the club and, as gawkers watched, the 35-year-old chef covered her body with colorful sushi rolls atop leaves of bamboo.

Did we mention the sushi is free?

Dancers in sexy school-girl getups flanked the naked sushi-server, dancing suggestively to the sultry, pulsating music, according to the Times. And then, Keir picked the pieces of raw fish right off the woman's stomach with tongs and placed it on drooling diners' plates, much to their glee.

Naked sushi has only just arrived in Florida in the past four months, according to the Times, though it's been a craze around the world for years.

The ritual known in Japanese as "Nyotaimori" (which means "female body presentation") originated in Japan hundreds of years ago as part of the geisha scene, historians say.

Not surprisingly, it has its detractors. In 2003, noisy, relentless protesters in Seattle stopped naked sushi for good at the Bonzai Pub and Bistro on the grounds that the practice is rife with human rights violations.

Florida police and the state health department have been nosing around naked sushi nights to make sure they aren't breaking any laws or violating any sanitation codes.

So far, Florida authorities haven't found anything to take issue with.

Keir defends the tradition as "my expression of art."

Hey, I think this is pretty cool. Matter of fact, "I think anything people want to freely do, without imposing on anyone else's turf, is really cool." Live and let live. Get your sushi wherever it suits YOU. Check out more on this story at Naked sushi comes to Clearwater bar - St. Petersburg Times

Marijuana "YES", Tobacco "NO" In The Netherlands

Dutch say no to tobacco, yes to cannabis

The Netherlands has long been known as one of the most tolerant countries in the world. But as of July 1, that famous live-and-let-live attitude will no longer extend to tobacco. That's the day a ban on smoking in public places of employment takes effect in the Netherlands. Well, not all smoking.

Yes, while smoking tobacco in public is soon to be verboten, smoking a joint (that's a "marijuana cigarette" for you squares) will remain legal in the Netherlands. But, as this article notes, Dutch potheads don't feel too lucky that their drug of choice is still legal. That's because many of them cut their joints with tobacco.

The Dutch government is not prohibiting marijuana smokers from rolling "pure" joints, and it's likely that many smokers who had previously mixed marijuana and tobacco will switch to smoking "pure." Interestingly, there's not yet a way for government inspectors to determine whether a joint is "pure" or cut with tobacco (other than testing it themselves, I suppose.)

Smoking tobacco will still be permitted inside the famous Dutch coffee shops, but only in separate rooms without employees, which many shop owners say they can't afford to provide.

Local pot smokers, who usually cut joints with tobacco, and owners of the “coffee shops” where they are allowed to light up will have to change their habits when the nation implements the indoor tobacco ban. Puffing a pure marijuana cigarette in public will still be permitted; smoking one with tobacco will merit coffee shop owners a 300-euro ($466) fine for the first offense and 2,400 euros for a fourth.

“Every customer will have to learn how to smoke pure,” said Robert Kempen, co-owner of The NooN and Mellow Yellow in Amsterdam, which sell marijuana and hashish. The rule makes him “sick to death,” he said, rolling himself a joint.

Coffee-shop proprietors say the ban will put some of them out of business as smokers stay away. The nation’s 720 outlets that serve marijuana smokers generate a large portion of their revenue from selling drinks, food and rolling papers to their patrons. Dutch sales of cannabis alone totaled 1.2 billion euros ($1.86 billion) in 2001, according to the most recent figures available from the nation’s statistics bureau.

To permit tobacco smoking, shops will have to build separate, unstaffed rooms, and many say they don’t have the space or money to do so. Others are investing in water pipes and $400 vaporizers, initially intended to aid people with lung problems inhale medicine, to help smokers light up without tobacco.

The Dutch ban, which prohibits tobacco smoking in all public places of employment to protect workers’ health, is only for tobacco and makes no change to marijuana policy, said Saskia Hommes, a spokeswoman for Dutch Health MinisterAb Klink. The government will have to see if the law is enforceable, she said.

To enforce the new policy, the government has more than doubled its number of food and consumer product inspectors to 200, said Bob Kiel, a spokesman for the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. The agents will make unannounced visits to bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as coffee shops. There are no guidelines to help inspectors distinguish between a mixed joint and a pure one, he said.

Coffee shops sell everything from pre-rolled joints for 3.50 euros each to hashish for as much as 18 euros a gram, said Mark Jacobsen, chairman of the Amsterdam Association of Cannabis Retailers. The ban will make it even harder for the shops to stay in business as visitors and revenue will drop, said Jacobsen, who is building a wall to divide The Rookies, a shop he co-owns.

We should have this problem here in the States. Especially Florida! Most people I know smoke "pure" anyway. What's this cutting with tobacco crap? That's okay though, Amsterdam is still on my list of "go to places".

Right To Keep And Bear Arms Upheld: 2nd Amendment

Supreme Court Throws Out Handgun Ban

WASHINGTON (June 26) - Silent on central questions of gun control for two centuries, the Supreme Court found its voice Thursday in a decision affirming the right to have guns for self-defense in the home and addressing a constitutional riddle almost as old as the republic over what it means to say the people may keep and bear arms.

The court's 5-4 ruling struck down the District of Columbia's ban on handguns and imperiled similar prohibitions in other cities, Chicago and San Francisco among them. Federal gun restrictions, however, were expected to remain largely intact.

For the rest of this historic story, including a couple of polls and photos, go to Supreme Court Throws Out Handgun Ban - AOL News .

As for this historic event, I have a couple of thoughts. 1) What were the 4 brain dead justices that voted against this thinking? 2) Why did this need to be decided by the Supreme Court anyway? 3) When are YOU people that don't get it going to realize "that laws against gun ownership only take the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens and NOT THE CRIMINALS"? Sorry, but, there is NO other way to say it except, "YOU people are stupid and naive"! Thank YOU Justice Scalia for seeing reality.

Dyson Solar Powered Cars

Vacuum-Cleaner King James Dyson Plans Solar-Powered Car

James Dyson has made quite a name for himself with his bagless vacuum cleaners. Now, the inventor is spending some of his $1.5 billion fortune working on a gasless car -- specifically, one that runs completely on solar power.

His engineers in England are developing a lightweight electric motor that, according to Dyson, could power a family vehicle for hundreds of miles. The battery would be charged by solar panels mounted on the vehicle's roof, and/or on the roof of a garage where the car is stored. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the motor is actually based on those used in the company's vacuum cleaners and hand dryers.

Dyson believes that electric cars will outnumber gas-guzzlers within a decade.

"Electric cars are [currently] seen as city cars and to go 30 mph is quite enough, but in the future that will change," said Dyson. An electric motor can go to very high speeds."

Of course, as anyone who has actually been to the land of tea and crumpets has already surmised, there will be concerns over whether Britain is actually sunny enough for solar power to work. Global warming, perhaps?

Listen, if this guy can do for automobiles what he has done for vacuum cleaners, "who am I to doubt him". Bring it on Mr. Dyson. Anything beats what we are paying for a gallon of gas these days.

"Planet X" Possibility Past Pluto

Sedna
Large 'Planet X' May Lurk Beyond Pluto

An icy, unknown world might lurk in the distant reaches of our solar system beyond the orbit of Pluto, according to a new computer model.

The hidden world -- thought to be much bigger than Pluto based on the model -- could explain unusual features of the Kuiper Belt, a region of space beyond Neptune littered with icy and rocky bodies. Its existence would satisfy the long-held hopes and hypotheses for a "Planet X" envisioned by scientists and sci-fi buffs alike.

"Although the search for a distant planet in the solar system is old, it is far from over," said study team member Patryk Lykawka of Kobe University in Japan.

The model, created by Lykawka and Kobe University colleague Tadashi Mukai, is detailed in a recent issue of Astrophysical Journal.

If the new world is confirmed, it would not be technically a planet. Under a controversial new definition adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) last week, it would instead be the largest known "plutoid."

The Kuiper Belt contains many peculiar features that can't be explained by standard solar system models. One is the highly irregular orbits of some of the belt's members.

The most famous is Sedna, a rocky object located three times farther from the sun than Pluto. Sedna takes 12,000 years to travel once around the Sun, and its orbit ranges from 80 to 100 astronomical units (AU). One AU is equal to the distance between the Earth and the Sun.

According to the model, Sedna and other Kuiper Belt oddities could be explained by a world 30 to 70 percent as massive as Earth orbiting between 100 AU and 200 AU from the sun.

At that distance, any water on the world's surface would be completely frozen. However, it might support a subsurface ocean like those suspected to exist on the moons Titan and Enceladus, said Mark Sykes, director of the Planetary Science Institute in Arizona.

"The interesting thing for me is the suggestion of the kinds of very interesting objects that may yet await discovery in the outer solar system," said Sykes, who was not involved in the study. "We are still scratching the edges of that region of the solar system, and I expect many surprises await us with the future deeper surveys."

I don't know about YOU, but, "I think this is pretty fascinating stuff". Have YOU ever stopped and thought to yourself just how much scientist and the government know, but, are NOT telling us? There is so much going on in the universe and space, yet, we know so little. That is, "until the day the "mothership" lands!"

Godzilla Monster Marijuana

Now Thats A Joint!
Marijuana Potency Hits 30-Year High

WASHINGTON (June 12) -- Marijuana potency increased last year to the highest level in more than 30 years, posing greater health risks to people who may view the drug as harmless, according to a report released Thursday by the White House.

The latest analysis from the University of Mississippi's Potency Monitoring Project tracked the average amount of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, in samples seized by law enforcement agencies from 1975 through 2007. It found that the average amount of THC reached 9.6 percent in 2007, compared with 8.75 percent the previous year.

The 9.6 percent level represents more than a doubling of marijuana potency since 1983, when it averaged just under 4 percent.

"Today's report makes it more important than ever that we get past outdated, anachronistic views of marijuana," said John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. He cited baby boomer parents who might have misguided notions that the drug contains the weaker potency levels of the 1970s.

"Marijuana potency has grown steeply over the past decade, with serious implications in particular for young people," Walters said. He cited the risk of psychological, cognitive and respiratory problems, and the potential for users to become dependent on drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

While the drug's potency may be rising, marijuana users generally adjust to the level of potency and smoke it accordingly, said Dr. Mitch Earleywine, who teaches psychology at the State University of New York in Albany and serves as an adviser for marijuana advocacy groups. "Stronger cannabis leads to less inhaled smoke," he said.

The White House office attributed the increases in marijuana potency to sophisticated growing techniques that drug traffickers are using at sites in the United States and Canada.

A report from the office last month found that a teenager who has been depressed in the past year was more than twice as likely to have used marijuana than teenagers who have not reported being depressed — 25 percent compared with 12 percent. The study said marijuana use increased the risk of developing mental disorders by 40 percent.

"The increases in marijuana potency are of concern since they increase the likelihood of acute toxicity, including mental impairment," said Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which funded the University of Mississippi study.

"Particularly worrisome is the possibility that the more potent THC might be more effective at triggering the changes in the brain that can lead to addiction," Volkow said.

But there's no data showing that a higher potency in marijuana leads to more addiction, Earleywine said, and marijuana's withdrawal symptoms are mild at best. "Mild irritability, craving for marijuana and decreased appetite — I mean those are laughable when you talk about withdrawal from a drug. Caffeine is worse."

The project analyzed data on 62,797 cannabis samples, 1,302 hashish samples, and 468 hash oil samples obtained primarily from seizures by law enforcement agencies in 48 states since 1975.

Okay, so, "when are these government honks and dorks going to literally, stop blowing smoke up our rears about the horrors and effects of the "herb of pleasure"? Friends and acquaintances of mine, including myself, started smoking herb in the 60's. Granted, some got hooked and some moved on to other things. However, the majority, including myself, "never got hooked or, moved on to worse stuff".

Actually, with the way the economy is today, more potent means YOU have to buy less and smoke less. That is a good thing for tight budgets! Hey, do YOU think Barack Obama ever puffed a joint?

Election Fiasco '08, VP's Needed, NOW!

Just because.....
While sitting around with my gorgeous wife Mary watching BBC America - Home Page, we were engaged in a conversation that I am sure is being played out in almost every household these days. Politics/politicians, oil/gasoline, Dems/Republicans and who is to blame for what. Without getting into specifics, I must say, "we do have opposing views on some of this gar-bage." And, we both have valid arguments to support our view.

However, much of the differences people have in "politics" comes down to party lines, Democrats vs Republicans. THIS, is the root of alot of the dissension. Instead of two parties, that are both screwed up, why don't we just have "common sense" representatives. If YOU need vote designation groups, they can be "the informed" and "the uninformed". An example could be, "the folks that voted for the oil companies excessive profits tax" could be "the uninformed". The folks that voted against it could be "the informed". Is taxing the "excessive", supposedly, profits going to put more oil on the market at a reasonable price? NOT! Is giving the oil companies incentives to explore new alternatives and explore for new oil reserves, i.e. the Russians, going to help YOUR situation with gasoline etc.? Probably!

The hell with what party does what or is what or is called what. What we need is some people with some innate "common sense". Preferably now and not later!

VP'S

While having a number of conversations with people from Kentucky, Vancouver, Belgium, New York and Indiana and Orlando, the general consensus of these folks was, their presidential choice, at this point, will depend on who the candidates select as vp. That is how poorly both of our presidential candidates are looked upon. if the vp choices suck, then most of these people, as well as myself, will either do a write in vote, or, NOT VOTE AT ALL! As of June 11, 2008, "nuff said"!

Be A (Red)Wino, Be Healthy! Maybe

Red Wine May Protect Heart From Aging

WASHINGTON (June 3) - A natural compound found in red wine may protect the heart against the effects of the aging process, researchers said on Tuesday.

In their study, mice were given a diet supplemented with the compound known as resveratrol starting at their equivalent of middle age until old age.

These mice experienced changes in their gene activity related to aging in a way very similar to mice that were placed on a so-called calorie restriction diet that slows the aging process by greatly cutting dietary energy intake.

Most striking was how the resveratrol, like calorie restriction, blocked the decline in heart function typically associated with aging, according to Tomas Prolla, a University of Wisconsin professor of genetics who helped lead the study.

Much as Spaniard Juan Ponce de Leon once searched for the mythical fountain of youth, researchers now are seeking ways to extend the quality and length of human life.

In some studies, animals given a diet with greatly reduced caloric intake have lived longer than animals with normal diets. But perpetual hunger is a steep price to pay for greater longevity, some researchers say.

Resveratrol, found in abundance in grapes and in red wine, has drawn a lot of interest from scientists and some companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, which in April said it would pay $720 million to buy Sirtris Pharmaceuticals Inc, a company that is developing drugs that mimic the effects of resveratrol.

Some studies have shown that in high doses, resveratrol extended the life span of fruit flies and worms and prevented early death in mice fed a high-fat diet.

In this study, mice were given relatively low doses compared to the earlier research, and still experienced important aging-related benefits, the researchers said.

The researchers began giving the resveratrol diet to the mice when they were 14 months old -- their middle age -- and followed the animals until they were about 30 months old. The researchers then conducted tests on cardiac function and on gene activity related to aging.

"Resveratrol at low doses can retard some aspects of the aging process, including heart aging, and it may do so by mimicking some of the effects of caloric restriction, which is known to retard aging in several tissues and extend life span," added Prolla, whose study was published in the scientific journal PLoS ONE.

Using a method that permits simultaneous analysis of thousands of genes at the same time, the researchers found a huge overlap in the genes whose activity were changed by resveratrol and caloric restriction.

They looked at the heart, brain and muscles, and said that the effect of resveratrol was strongest in the heart but did prevent some aging-related changes in the other tissues.

Just because mice had these benefits does not mean people also would, although Prolla said, "I think there's a high likelihood that our findings are applicable to humans."

He said he expected to see a lot of studies in the coming years on the effects of resveratrol supplementation in people.

Some funding for the study came from DSM Nutritional Products, a company based in Basel, Switzerland that produces a resveratrol product called Resvida.

Madison, Wisconsin-based LifeGen Technologies, a genomics company that Prolla helped found, took part in the research.

Okay, sooooo, here is the excuse YOU have been looking for to "drink more vino/wine". Hey, something that makes YOU feel good, AND, is healthy at the same time? This is better than hitting the lotto(almost)!

Hillary Clinton Dissed By "Super Idiots"

Well, it looks like Barack Obama is going to get the nod to run for president. Seems that he has crossed the line for the number of delegates needed to get the nomination. Thanks to the wimpy mush brained "super delegates". "What in the hell were YOU idiots thinking?" Oh, that's right, "YOU didn't want to seem racist and offend blacks". My bad. Doesn't matter if YOU literally "screw" the women again. I guess your philosophy there is, "hell, we've been dissing women for so long, one more time wont matter". That is why I am no longer a democrat. "YOU people are freaking idiots!"

Hang in there Hillary. The Universe and the Earth have ways of making things work out to the way they should be. YOU pretty much have proven that YOU are the "peoples" candidate. Go for it with all YOU have. Though I am but one vote, I am with YOU all the way. Unless YOU convince me to vote for Obama, YOU will be my write in candidate.

Bo Diddley Crosses Over

Rock 'n' Roll Icon Bo Diddley Dies at 79

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 2) - Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79.

Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.

"One of the founding fathers of rock 'n' roll has left the building he helped construct," the statement said.

For the rest of this story, some pictures and videos, go to Rock 'n' Roll Icon Bo Diddley Dies at 79 - AOL News

I have some history with Bo. I first became familiar with him when I would see him perform at the Apollo Theater in New York when I was a kid. Since I had family that managed the theater, I got access to backstage where I met Bo and hung out. He showed me his famous Bo Diddley "guitar lick". This inspired me to want to play guitar.

As life went on, our paths crossed again and again performing on stage together and doing shows together. The last couple of shows I remember doing with Bo were in the 80's and 90's in Florida and Pa.

One of the funniest memories I have of Bo, is the story he told me about his place in Florida and snakes. At his property in the Gainesville area, he was having alot of problems with snakes. So, Bo put an electric wire around his whole property 2 inches off the ground. Enough juice ran through the wire to shock and discourage any snakes. It was not set high enough to kill them though. Bo didn't play that snake stuff. I always thought that was a pretty cool way to keep snakes off your property.

Thank YOU for the great memories and music Bo! Peace be with YOU on your journey to the other side.

Graduation - Class Of '08

On May 29th of 2008, I had the pleasure of experiencing something that unfortunately, far too many of us do not get a chance to witness in this day and age anymore. My kid "graduating" high school! How cool is that? It was awesome. And even though our son is very intelligent, if it were not for his mother, my incredible wife Mary, who knows if this would have taken place in the time and manner that it did.

One of the main reasons for the low graduation rates in this country today is, the non involvement of too many parents in their childrens lives period. Far too many kids have NO guidance or support from their parents or other family members. If your kids are still in school, start pitching in with their lives and education. Then, maybe YOU will get to participate in this most gratifying and satisfying event.
