Neil Young Fans

Neil Young to release archive on Blu-ray discs

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Rocker Neil Young plans to release his entire music archive on Blu-ray discs, a sign that the discs' capabilities are building appeal among musicians as well as movie studios.

Blu-ray discs hold much more data than DVDs, are easily updated over the Internet and offer better picture and sound quality.

Young revealed his plans Tuesday at a Sun Microsystems Inc. (JAVA) (JAVA) conference in San Francisco. Santa Clara-based Sun makes the Java technology that gives Blu-ray discs their interactive menus and ability to accept updates over an Internet connection.

The first installment of Young's archive will cover the years 1963 to 1972 and will be released as a 10-disc set this fall on Reprise/Warner Bros. Records.

Young said the archives will be released chronologically and include some previously unreleased songs, videos, handwritten manuscripts and other memorabilia, in addition to the high-resolution audio that Blu-ray technology is known for.

Fans can download more content like songs, photos and tour information directly to the Blu-ray discs as the content becomes available.

Blu-ray's rival format HD DVD effectively died with maker Toshiba Corp.'s announcement in February that it will no longer produce HD DVD players.

Most of the Blu-ray discs manufactured so far have been used for high-definition movies.

Musical artists such as AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen and Destiny's Child released concert videos on Blu-ray discs, but Young's support of the technology for his ambitious archive project demonstrates more fully the capabilities of Blu-ray as a music medium.

Earlier technology didn't offer the ability to browse archive material while listening to songs in high-resolution audio, Young noted.

"Previous technology required unacceptable quality compromises," he said in a statement. "I am glad we waited and got it right."

As a Neil Young fan, this should be great news. Got to keep up with the technology as it is constantly evolving. Personally, I would like to see the same thing with the Blu-ray done with Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone, Bob Marley & Led Zeppelin. And of course, Enigma! Hopefully, we will get all of these.

"Operation Chaos" Aka "Operation Dumbass"

If the late great comedian Richard Pryor were here today, I could imagine him saying something to the effect of, "what the f*#k is wrong with you people, are you stupid"? Hey Richard, "yeah, they are".

Recently, I started listening to the Rush Limbaugh radio show. Since I believe in giving credit where it is due, I must say, "the guy is very intelligent and on point more than not". However, I can't say that for most of his listeners. He has this thing going where he gets his Republican listeners to switch parties in primaries/caucuses and vote for Hillary Clinton to help her get a win and stay in the presidential campaign. This, supposedly, creates "chaos" within the Democratic party between Clinton and Obama supporters and delegates. Which in turn, keeps the party divided for so long that by the general election, they are to battered and bruised to put up a good fight against McCain and the Republicans. A strategy they may work or not. The point is however, "don't you people have better things to do than running back and forth to your election office and switching your registration"? YOU, are freaking LOSERS! Don't YOU have a brain of your own? And as much as I hate to say it, most of this group of people are "white". Speaking of which, "why do YOU people keep throwing your support behind Obama"? "Are YOU blind, deaf and dumb"? WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Black folks, "what is your problem"? Oh, I know, "YOU were blinded by the color of his skin". That is an excellent reason to vote for someone. Hey, with that reasoning, no wonder black people have not come any further than they are. Barack Obama has done NOTHING significant in government. He is still wet behind the ears. He carries way to much negative baggage with him. AND, as witnessed in North Carolina this week, he is not campaigning to the black community because he knows he doesn't have to. He knows "blacks" are going to vote for him regardless. Excuse me, but, "isn't that a diss on YOU"? Come on people, wake yourselves up. Wouldn't YOU rather vote for someone who is going to help YOU excel and move forward instead of someone who is going to promise YOU the government will bail YOU out and keep YOU indebted to them? OPYN Your MINDZ and stop listening to these so-called reverends and race baiters that want to keep crap going so that they can prosper.

Nobody is keeping YOU where YOU are except YOU. Nobody is going to help YOU move forward except YOU. Vote that, bank that!

Where's My Pig?

Roger Waters Wants His Pig Back

LOS ANGELES (April 29) - Organizers of a major California music festival are offering a $10,000 reward and four festival tickets for life in exchange for ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters' two-story inflatable pig, which was lost Sunday night.

Waters' signature pig was seen floating away during his closing set at the three-day Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, held in the desert east of Los Angeles.

The giant flying pig, part of Pink Floyd's stage show since their 1977 album "Animals" featuring the song "Pigs on the Wing," broke free from its tethers above the Coachella crowd and drifted off.

It's not the first time Waters has lost his flying pig. Back in 1977, it floated away on the second day of a photo shoot at the Battersea Power Station in London and was later recovered and used for an album cover.

Waters was a member of British rock band between 1965 and 1985. He and the band continued to use the pig as a stage prop even after he quit, and at Coachella Waters played classic Pink Floyd songs including "Mother," "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Have a Cigar" and "Dark Side of the Moon."

Coachella was named one of the top three festivals in the country by music magazine Billboard. Last year, the festival attracted more than 186,000 music and art lovers, and grossed $16.2 million, according to the magazine.

Anyone with information on the lost pig, should email lostpig+coachella.com.

Ten thousand dollars to return the inflatible pig, and nobody has shown up with it yet? What are YOU people waiting for? Besides, being a HUGE Floyd fan, I want the pig returned. NOW!!!!

Jimi Hendrix Sex Tape

Jimi Hendrix Returns as a Sex Tape Star?

LOS ANGELES (April 29) - A videotape said to show rock guitar great Jimi Hendrix having sex with two women was released for sale on the Internet Tuesday, following a wave of stars, alive and dead, showing up in homemade porn.

The 11 minutes of footage of a man resembling Hendrix cavorting with two unidentified brunettes in a dimly lit bedroom is packaged in a 45-minute DVD distributed by Los Angeles adult-film studio Vivid Entertainment.

Vivid, which also distributed the notorious sex tape of actress Pamela Anderson and rocker Tommy Lee, among others, said in a press release that its Hendrix footage was shot about 40 years ago in a hotel room and was unearthed by a rock 'n' roll memorabilia collector.

Hendrix, considered one the greatest rock guitarists of all time with such hits as "Hey Joe," "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady," died in 1970 at age 27 in London.

"This new movie shows that Jimi Hendrix could have been as great a porn star as he was a rock star," Vivid co-chairman, Steven Hirsch, said in the release.

The film's authenticity, however, was immediately challenged by some. The musician's longtime girlfriend during the 1960s, Kathy Etchingham, told the New York Times after viewing still photos taken from the footage: "It is not him."

"His face is too broad and nose and nostrils too wide for Jimi," she was quoted as telling the Times via e-mail.

Charles R. Cross, author of the noted Hendrix biography "Room Full of Mirrors," also disputed the identity of the man in the tape, who sports a large Afro hairstyle and head band.

"It doesn't add up to Jimi," Gross told the Times, saying he had encountered the film during his book research and dismissed it, as have others, as a fake.

But Vivid said it consulted with several experts to authenticate the footage, including Pamela Des Barres, author of the book "I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie," and Cynthia Albritton, better known as Cynthia Plaster Caster, famed for making plaster molds of celebrities' genitals, including those of Hendrix.

Both women appear on the DVD, titled, "Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape," offering their commentary.

"They both immediately had the same reaction: 'I can't believe it, it's Jimi Hendrix,"' Hirsch quoted the two women as saying when they first viewed the footage.

DEAL FOR RIGHTS

Vivid bought the tape from an individual distributor, Howie Klein, who had approached Vivid after purchasing it from the collector who found it, Hirsch said.
Hirsch told Reuters that private investigators hired by Vivid's lawyers later tracked down the man who claimed to have shot the footage in 8-millimeter color film, and Vivid struck a deal with him for rights to commercially distribute it.

"That's why we believe in fact that we own the copyright," he said.

Bob Merlis, spokesman for Experience Hendrix, the Seattle company owned by the musician's relatives that controls rights to his music, said, "We're in no position to verify" the tape's authenticity.

He declined further comment, saying only that rights to Hendrix's likeness remain an unsettled legal issue. The sex tape DVD, which retails for $39.95, was available for sale online at
http://www.hendrixsextape.com/ and will be available in stores starting next Tuesday, Hirsch said.

Distribution of the Hendrix tape comes two weeks after a New York businessman purchased a 15-minute film of Marilyn Monroe engaging in oral sex. But the broker of that deal said the buyer planned to keep the film out of public view.

Look, I have not seen this tape/footage yet, so, I really cannot comment on whether this is Jimi or not. Having known Jimi from the time he first came to New York, although not a close relationship, if he in fact did this tape, "it would not surprise me". Though he was mostly a fairly quiet private person, he did have his times where he "aired it out" so to speak, with the best of them.

Regardless of the tape and it's status, "James Marshall Hendrix is and always will be, JIMI HENDRIX! Check out a couple videos at

"Thong" Jeans, Gross Or Cool?

Brazilian Clothing Line Designs "Thong" Jeans

We thought exposed g-strings had gone the way of "The Thong Song," but a new pair of risqué jeans that just hit the market promises to bring them back. The Brazilian clothing line Sanna, designed by Sandra Tanimura, has created a pair of super low-rise jeans held up by - what else -- a built-in jeweled thong.

"We specialize in making low-rise trousers, and our customers wanted them to get even lower. It was difficult meeting these demands without the trousers falling down," Tanimura explains. "I came up with the idea of using the bikini strings to let the trousers hang really low without falling." Lovely. Pick up a pair for $89 at www.sannas.jp.

Alright, look, here's the deal, "no matter what I comment, it's going to be wrong". So, different strokes for different folks. Gross and cool are perceptual. Therefore, whatever your perception of this fashion faux pas is, have at it!

Grand Theft Auto 4 April 29th PS3 & X-Box 360

GTA 4, The Adult Crime Game Kids Love

Get ready: There's a new Grand Theft Auto game about to roll out this week, and we're probably in for a burst of discussion about violent video play.

I've never found it likely that bloody video games cause bad behavior in kids, but then again, I'd also never pass any of my old copies of the games to a child. So I'm a little unsure about how to react to a recent study showing that the game is more popular than any other among 12- to 14-year-old boys.

"GTA IV" is almost inevitably going to be one of the biggest game releases in a year that is already looking like a prosperous one for the industry. Market research firm NPD said that Americans expect to spend less on entertainment this year, yet they're also going to spend more than ever on video games. Video game sales jumped 57 percent in March, compared with the same month last year, according to the firm.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is practically an industry unto itself. Electronic Arts has attempted a hostile takeover of the game's publisher this year with an offer valued at $2 billion. One analyst has even speculated that the new game could dampen opening weekend ticket sales for "Iron Man," the comic-book-inspired action movie starring Robert Downey Jr. The film premieres a few days after the game's release.

Like its predecessors, Grand Theft Auto IV is rated "M" (for "Mature"), and stores are only allowed to sell it to folks ages 17 and up. The game industry's ratings board has even spelled out the types of content that could make parents squirm. The game, to be released Tuesday for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, hits all the hot buttons: It contains "blood," "intense violence," "partial nudity," "strong language," "strong sexual content" and "use of drugs and alcohol."

The game's developer, Rockstar, has mostly kept quiet about the storylines of its latest game, set in Liberty City, a satirical version of New York City. Previous installments of the best-selling games have all followed the paths of young strivers who go from rags to riches, building careers as gangster kingpins. On the way, there tend to be a few zillion explosions, flattened pedestrians and rival gangs that need to get squeezed out.

If YOU want to get the rest of this story and check out a slide show from the game, go to Mike Musgrove - The Adult Crime Game Kids Love - washingtonpost.com . Can not tell a lie, I will be playing this as soon as I get a free moment. Hey, got to get the tension out somewhere, might as well be on this video game as opposed to being on YOU.

Global Food Crisis-Britain & Beyond

Britain: World Food Crisis a ‘Silent Tsunami’

Soaring global food prices could unleash a “silent tsunami” that would plunge 100 million people who previously did not require help to buy food into hunger and poverty, the top United Nations food official said at a conference on the growing crisis in London. “This is the new face of hunger,” the official, Josette Sheeran, the executive director of the World Food Program, added. “The response calls for large-scale, high-level action by the global community.” She was one of 25 experts in the field who attended the conference hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at his Downing Street office. Prices for basic foods like rice and wheat have risen rapidly since the last quarter of 2007, leading to riots and protests in a number of countries. In the latest unrest, demonstrators took to the streets in the Afghan city of Jalalabad and the Gabonese capital, Libreville. A statement from Mr. Brown’s office released after the meeting said that delegates had pledged to work with the G-8 and European Union toward a global strategy to tackle price rises and increase support for the world’s poorest nations. There was also agreement for a “more selective approach” to biofuels, cited by some for causing the food price surge.

This article alone speaks volumns about how "screwed up" we are on this planet these days. With all of our technology and advancements in everything(except common sense), here we are in this century facing food shortages. Somebody, please, "wake me up and tell me this is a dream". What rocket scientist came up with the idea of "burning up our food supply to make fuel"? Can YOU say "ethanol"? Along with "weapons of mass destruction" and "global warming", ethanol is the biggest F YOU this century.

Mankind needs a "major wake up call" and, "we better get one real soon".

Naked on this glacier? I'll pass!
2,008 Nudists to Pack Soccer Field for Euro 2008 Tournament 'Art'

VIENNA, Austria - It might be a good time to make strategic use of a yellow card.

New York contemporary artist Spencer Tunick has gained notoriety worldwide for photographing thousands of people in the nude. Now he's planning to pack a Vienna soccer stadium with 2,008 naked fans in the run-up to the Euro 2008 tournament.

Austria's national railway said Thursday it will offer free travel to the first 2,008 men and women who sign up to bare it all for the May 11 spectacle.

Tunick wants to pose them on the field inside Ernst Happel Stadium, where the tournament final will be played. Austria and Switzerland are co-hosting the event, which runs from June 7-29.

"2,008 naked people would be super!" said Katharina Murschetz of Kunsthalle Wien, a prestigious Vienna art exhibition center that is organizing the mass-nudity display.

The Brooklyn-based artist has grabbed headlines for draping naked bodies on glaciers, in front of the United Nations, in downtown Amsterdam, Netherlands, on hotel balconies overlooking Miami Beach's famed South Beach and in more than 70 other locations from Montreal to Melbourne, Australia.

If YOU are looking for something to do on May 11th, and, YOU enjoy being naked in public with about 2000 other people, YOU might want to check this out. If it feels good, do it!

Columbian Volcano Erupting Again

Volcano Erupts in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia (April 15) - Authorities are evacuating thousands of people after a volcano in Colombia erupted in a shower of hot ash.

There were no reports of damage or injuries from the eruption at the Nevado del Huila, about 150 miles southwest of Bogota.

Caracol Radio reported that between 13,000 and 15,000 people who live near the volcano were being evacuated.

The eruption took place at 1:08 a.m. EDT Tuesday, according to the Colombian Institute of Geology and Mining.

Martha Calvache, deputy director of the institute's seismic department, told Caracol Radio that authorities were unable to estimate the size of the eruption.

This same volcano erupted in 2007 causing devastating mudslides and destruction. This is probably not the end of this event. As dangerous as this volcano is, and, can be, the volcano I reference in my book "Dragon, Book Of Shang", Nevado Del Ruiz in Columbia, had the most destructive and largest eruption in South America in 1985.

Periodically, the Earth has to belch when that pressure builds up. It is a natural happening. Your best bet, "don't live around a live active volcano"! If YOU would like more info on this volcano, go to Global Volcanism Program Nevado del Huila Summary .

Dying For Food, We Need Help

Soldiers keep peace at Manila store providing government rice sale.
Riots, instability spread as food prices skyrocket

(CNN) -- Riots from Haiti to Bangladesh to Egypt over the soaring costs of basic foods have brought the issue to a boiling point and catapulted it to the forefront of the world's attention, the head of an agency focused on global development said Monday.

"This is the world's big story," said Jeffrey Sachs, director of Columbia University's Earth Institute.

World Bank President Robert Zoellick has said the surging costs could mean "seven lost years" in the fight against worldwide poverty.

"While many are worrying about filling their gas tanks, many others around the world are struggling to fill their stomachs, and it is getting more and more difficult every day," Zoellick said late last week in a speech opening meetings with finance ministers.

"In just two months," Zoellick said in his speech, "rice prices have skyrocketed to near historical levels, rising by around 75 percent globally and more in some markets, with more likely to come. In Bangladesh, a 2-kilogram bag of rice ... now consumes about half of the daily income of a poor family."

The price of wheat has jumped 120 percent in the past year, he said -- meaning that the price of a loaf of bread has more than doubled in places where the poor spend as much as 75 percent of their income on food.

I posted this story because it is something that should and, will effect each and everyone of us in some way at some point if not already. Though we may not be at a point that some of these countries are, there are people here in the US and other places that are going to have a hard time making ends meet. With the rise in gasoline, food and the housing situation and credit, there will be tough times. Even if YOU are not effected directly, at some point, the trickle down will catch up with YOU.

Everybody needs to pay attention to things that are taking place in the world these days and take the necessary steps to keep YOU and yours in good standing. YOU are the only one that can do that. Pay attention and be aware of global happenings and YOU should be fine. For the rest of the above story, go to Riots, instability spread as food prices skyrocket - CNN.com

Women Need Help NOW!

Women face bias worldwide - UN

Women are discriminated against in almost every country around the world, a UN-commissioned report says.

It says that this is despite the fact that 185 UN member states pledged to outlaw laws favouring men by 2005.

It adds that 70% of the world's poor are women and they own just 1% of the world's titled land.

The report, which was prepared for UN Human Right Commissioner Louise Arbour, says rape within marriage has still not been made a crime in 53 nations.

'Life-long violation'

The report was compiled by Fareda Banda, a law professor at London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

At a news conference in Geneva, Prof Banda said that other laws discriminating women included statutes on divorce, maternity benefits and pensions.

She said that even basic laws like the legal ages for marriage could have a huge impact on women's lives:

"Many states still have different ages of marriage for young women then they have for young men, and the age for girls is always lower then the age for boys.

"This leads to violations, for example of a girls' right education, if she has to leave school at 14 to get married, and this impacts upon her life chances.

"It ends up being a life-long violation of her rights in terms of forfeiting education, having children too early, possibly being damaged herself."

The report recommends the introduction of a new, separate mechanism to fight discrimination because existing UN and international human rights laws are not being upheld.

It also calls for a new UN expert to focus specifically on laws which damage women's chances in life.

YOU can call me what YOU want, or, say what YOU want, but, "this story really pisses me off!" Seventy percent of the worlds poor are women! If it were not for women, we would not even be here. Once again, it shows that the arrogant human male species on this planet is dumber than the beetle or roach that preceded mankind. From the most powerful to the lowest human male on this earth, YOU are much more lowly than the so-called animals YOU strive to control and destroy. One day YOU will pay the price for your ignorance and arrogance. The Universe and this planet have a way of balancing everything out over time. No matter how powerful YOU may think YOU are, your time will come. Just ask the dinosaurs and carcharodon megalodon.

SeaWorld Orlando, Florida Cranks It Up

New SeaWorld Orlando coaster/animal attraction revealed

SeaWorld Orlando is preparing to build a new roller coaster attraction billed as the most ambitious and largest single investment for any SeaWorld attraction.

The ride will be part thrill ride and part animal attraction — combining those elements for the pre-show queue line, the ride itself and the-post-show, said Joseph Couceiro, vice president of sales and marketing for SeaWorld’s parent company, Busch Entertainment Corp. He and other company executives revealed their plan tonight to a gathering of travel industry and community VIPs dining at SeaWorld for Busch’s kick-off gala for two other big new attractions — Aquatica in Orlando and Jungala in Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

Few other details of the new coaster were disclosed this evening — not even a name.

The coaster is set to open some time in 2009.

No cost estimates were announced.

"What it’s going to be is the next generation SeaWorld attraction," Couceiro said. "What we do well is connect the world with the sea, presenting marine life in totally different perspectives. Also what we do well is put the guest in the midst of that. This is the next generation of that."

He and other officials were reluctant to call the ride a roller coaster, though they said it would have roller coaster components. They said the attraction will combine entertainment with education about marine life.

"It’s going to have animal components, marine life components. It will have a very unique, state-of-the-art ride, a roller coaster if you will, that will provide a sensation of gliding," Couceiro said. "And the combination of the animals and the ride is what makes it special."

SeaWorld began clearing land for construction this winter. The ride will go into the area formerly occupied by a flamingo habitat exhibit, a backyard habitat exhibit, other small exhibits and a gift shop.

The attraction's primary construction site, shown in the above photograph shot Monday from SeaWorld's Sky Tower, is situated between SeaWorld's Dolphin Nursery and the Whale & Dolphin Theatre.

This is really cool news for the tourism industry. SeaWorld has become a major player in the theme park business and is turning up the pressure on the other Orlando attractions bigtime. "Aquatica", their new water park officially opens this week and is running strong already. This is great for the Central Florida tourism corridor. Can't wait!

Stonehenge, Why & When?

Archaeologists Start Stonehenge Dig

LONDON (March 31) - Some of England's most sacred soil was disturbed Monday for the first time in more than four decades as archaeologists worked to solve the enduring riddle of Stonehenge: When and why was the prehistoric monument built?

The excavation project, set to last until April 11, is designed to unearth materials that can be used to establish a firm date for when the first mysterious set of bluestones was put in place at Stonehenge, one of Britain's best known and least understood landmarks.

The World Heritage site, a favorite with visitors the world over, has become popular with Druids, neo-Pagans and New Agers who attach mystical significance to the strangely shaped circle of stones, but there remains great debate about the actual purpose of the structure.

The dig will be led by Timothy Darvill, a leading Stonehenge scholar from Bournemouth University, and Geoffrey Wainwright, president of the Society of Antiquaries. Both experts have worked to pinpoint the site in the Preseli Mountains in south Wales where the bluestones -- the earliest of the large rocks erected at the site -- came from. They will be able to compare the samples found in Wales to those at Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plain.

"The excavation will date the arrival of the bluestones following their 153-mile journey from Preseli to Salisbury Plain and contribute to our definition of the society which undertook such an ambitious project," Wainright said. "We will be able to say not only why, but when the first stone monument was built."

Scientists believe the bluestones were first put in place about 2600 B.C., but they concede the date is only an approximation at best. The original bluestones were removed about 200 years later and scientists hope to find bits of them embedded in the earth.

Darvill said the excavation marks the first opportunity to bring the power of modern scientific archaeology to bear on a problem that has taxed the minds of so many experts since medieval times: Why were the bluestones so important to have warranted bringing them from so far away?

The excavation goal is to find remnants of the original bluestones, or related materials, that can be subjected to modern radiocarbon dating techniques to establish a more precise timeline for the construction of Stonehenge, said Dave Batchelor, an archaeologist with English Heritage, which oversees the Stonehenge site.

"We have to find the material that will give us a good date," he said. "That's where the luck comes in. We could get an absolute blank or we could get something magnificent or we could get something in between.

"He said bluestones have an "inky, bluey, black" appearance and come from the Preseli Mountains in South Wales. About 6 feet tall, they are the smaller stones that make up part of the monument, alongside the larger sarsen stones, which are about twice as tall and were added later.

It is hoped that fixing the date of the start of construction with more precision will allow scientists to finally grasp how and why the monument was built. They also may learn more about how the stones were transported. Research shows the bluestones, weighing an estimated five tons apiece, may have been dragged from the mountains in south Wales to the sea, put on huge rafts and floated up the River Avon.

Archaeologists believe that before the bluestones were put in place, Stonehenge consisted of a circle of wooden posts and timbers built in approximately 3100 B.C.

The research that began Monday with the digging of a trench marks the first time ground inside the inner stone circle has been excavated since 1944. The area, revered as a powerful link to England's pagan past, is so sensitive that Cabinet approval was needed before the work could begin.

Renee Fok, a spokeswoman with English Heritage, said the project was okayed only after experts were convinced of its potential value. She said the project represents "the logical next step" after the two professors located the source of the bluestones in Wales.

"It's the culmination of their work, it makes sense to go back to the stone circle and get a date," she said.

"We want to strike a balance. We want the best research, but we can't just say go ahead and dig as you like, it's a very fragile area. Even the Druids are happy with this project, we've spoken to them and they don't object."

She said tourists will be able to visit Stonehenge as usual and will also be able to watch live video coverage of the excavation in special tents at the site.

This is pretty cool stuff. Don't know about YOU, but, I would like to know "WHY" Stonehenge was built. I would also like to know who/what built the pyramids, how, and why? And, NO, people did NOT build them.

Buddy Miles, Drummer, Singer, Friend Gone At 60

Buddy Miles, 60; drummer with Hendrix, voice of California
raisins

Buddy Miles, the rock and R&B drummer, singer and songwriter whose eclectic career included stints playing with Jimi Hendrix and as the lead voice of the California Raisins, the animated clay figures that became an advertising phenomenon in the late 1980s, has died. He was 60.

Miles died Tuesday February 26 of congestive heart failure at his home in Austin, Texas, according to an announcement on his website.

A massive man with a distinctive, sculpted afro, Miles hit his peak of popularity when he joined Hendrix and bassist Billy Cox to form Hendrix's Band of Gypsys, which the New Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll called "the first black rock group." Miles had played with Hendrix on the guitarist's influential "Electric Ladyland" album released in 1968.

The Band of Gypsys made just one album, a live set recorded on New Year's Eve in 1969-70, and two of Miles' songs, "Them Changes" and "We Got to Live Together," were included on the album. He gave the recording a memorable drum riff on one of Hendrix's signature songs, "Machine Gun."

But, according to Miles, the Band of Gypsys association was brief and stormy. He told The Times in 1988 that Hendrix's management, not the guitarist himself, fired him within a month of the concert. He thought Hendrix's managers were leery of continuing with an all-black group.

"It had to be a racial thing," Miles told The Times. "I think it had to scare them because of the political aspect at the time."

Miles was born Sept. 5, 1947, in Omaha. He developed an interest in drums at an early age and by 12 was playing in his father's jazz combo. Within a couple of years he was in demand as a session player and a sideman, working with top-name R&B groups, including Ruby and the Romantics and the Delfonics. According to the Rolling Stone encyclopedia, he played on the session that produced the Jaynetts' 1963 hit "Sally Go Round the Roses."

While playing with Wilson Pickett in 1967, he was approached by guitarist Mike Bloomfield, who asked him to join the blues, rock and soul group Electric Flag. Miles played on three of the band's albums before forming his own group, the Buddy Miles Express, in 1968. Next came his association with Hendrix.

Over the years, Miles recorded two albums with Carlos Santana, one of which went platinum, and worked with other leading music figures, including Muddy Waters and John McLaughlin. He re-formed the Buddy Miles Express in the mid-1970s and had a hit with his song "Them Changes."

By the late 1970s, however, Miles' career came to a halt over convictions for grand theft and auto theft. He served time in the California Institution for Men at Chino and at San Quentin State Prison. He was incarcerated until 1985 and formed bands at both prisons.

After he was released, he sang with Santana's group and got the raisin gig while working on an album with the guitarist. The popular television commercials for the California Raisin Advisory Board featured a quartet of singing and dancing Claymation figures with Miles, as Buddy Raisin, doing the lead singing covering Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."

The commercial's popularity spawned a million-selling offshoot album of remakes of rock and soul oldies, "The California Raisins Sing the Hit Songs."

It breaks my heart to keep posting these stories of the passing of some of the great music legends of our time. And fellow musicians and personal friends. Buddy was all that! Not to mention, "he was one hell of a drummer and unreal vocalist". He was also alot of fun to hang out with. Though YOU are crossed over now Buddy, your music will still be here with us. I am sure I will catch up with YOU again on the other side, or, "Down By The River".MySpace.com - Buddy Miles - Dallas, Texas - Rock / Blues / Jam Band - www.mysp

Big Bang Theory Long Before Earth

Distant Star's Explosion Shatters Record

WASHINGTON (March 21) - The explosion of a star halfway across the universe was so huge it set a record for the most distant object that could be seen on Earth by the naked eye.

The aging star, in a previously unknown galaxy, exploded in a gamma ray burst 7.5 billion light years away, its light finally reaching Earth early Wednesday.

The gamma rays were detected by NASA's Swift satellite at 2:12 a.m. "We'd never seen one before so bright and at such a distance," NASA's Neil Gehrels said. It was bright enough to be seen with the naked eye.

However, NASA has no reports that any skywatchers spotted the burst, which lasted less than an hour. Telescopic measurements show that the burst - which occurred when the universe was about half its current age, before Earth was formed - was bright enough to be seen without a telescope.

"Someone would have had to run out and look at it with a naked eye, but didn't," said Gehrels, chief of NASA's astroparticles physics lab at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

The starburst would have appeared as bright as some of the stars in the handle of the Little Dipper constellation, said Penn State University astronomer David Burrows. How it looked wasn't remarkable, but the distance traveled was.

The 7.5 billion light years away far eclipses the previous naked eye record of 2.5 million light years. One light year is 5.9 trillion miles.

"This is roughly halfway to the edge of the universe," Burrows said.

Before it exploded, the star was about 40 times bigger than our sun. The explosion vaporized any planet nearby, Gehrels said.

I thought this was a really fascinating story for a number of reasons. There are so many of us/you that have all these preconceived theories etc about how Earth and all came to be. Most of those theories are totally bogus and hold NO facts whatsoever. The more time passes, the more things come into play that refute alot of what YOU have been taught to believe. As the title of this blog suggests, YOU have to have "Opyn Mindz" to further your journey properly.

Shirley Bassey Is 71 And "Gettting The Party Started"

American born music divas can squabble over the title of being "The Queen," but when it comes to pop music, there is only one "Dame."

That's
Dame Shirley Bassey.

This week, the 71-year-old chanteuse releases her latest music project, 'Get the Party Started,' consisting of daring covers of pop hits such as Lionel Richie's 'Hello,' Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway's 'Where is the Love?,' Gloria Gaynor's disco romp 'I Will Survive' and an ambitious rendition of Pink's once-ubiquitous chart-topper, which is the set's title track. All of this is juxtaposed with renewed remixes of Bassey's most beloved vocal platters such as 'Big Spender,' 'I Who Have Nothing' and 'This is My Life.'

Producers like the Glimmers, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Bugz in the Attic helped put a new spin on the previously released songs, while songwriter/producer partners Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn helped craft the newness for the Welsh born diva.

"I thought maybe I could use a change," Bassey said in a recent interview with National Public Radio. "But I didn't know it would be that much of a change. I keep trying to put a spoke in the wheel, but they keep coming up with something new."Some critics have heralded the opus – Bassey's first in 10 years.

According to the April issue of Harp Magazine,"Pink should be green with envy; Bassey now owns this song."

You can get the rest of this story at Shirley Bassey: Just Turning 71 and Still Ready to 'Party' - Black Voices Blogs . I love Shirley Bassey and it is so nice to see her back and kicking with a new disc. She does a killer job on Pink's "Get This Party Started". Go get 'em Shirley!

Forget Gas Prices, Go To The Grocery Store

High Wheat Prices Raise Grocery Costs

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — If you think the cost of gassing up your car is outrageous, wait until you need to restock your pantry.

The price of wheat has more than tripled during the past 10 months, making Americans' daily bread — and bagels and pizza and pasta — feel a little like luxury items. And baked goods aren't the only ones getting more expensive: Experts expect some 80 percent of grocery prices will spike, too, and could remain steep for years because wheat and other grains are used to feed cattle, poultry and dairy cows.

"It's going to affect everything ... impact on every section of the grocery store," said Michael Bittel, senior vice president of King Arthur Flour Co. in Norwich, Vt.

White bread cost an average of 85 cents a pound in 1998 and $1.03 in February 2006. The price rose to $1.32 a pound last month, according to federal data.

And that's on top of overall food price increases of 4 percent last year and an additional 3.5 to 4.5 percent expected this year, according to federal data. Most years see 2.5 percent increases.

And YOU thought gassing up your car was expensive! Prices in the super market are getting totally ridiculous for a variety of reasons. That is why I posted this article. Hey, if YOU are going to be hungry and cant afford some of the food YOU need, YOU might as well know why. Click the link for the rest of the story iWon Money & Investing .

"What, I Can't Buy Sex Anymore"?

Madam: Sex Too Hard to Sell These Days

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) - The oldest bordello in Hamburg's red-light district is shutting down for lack of business, according to newspaper reports published Friday.

The family-run Hotel Luxor, established in 1948, is being sold to an investor and will close down for good next month, madam Waltraud Mehrer said, according to the Hamburg Morgenpost and Bild newspapers.

She blamed the decline in business on easily available Internet porn, the rise of call-girl services, and "noisy discos and dance clubs" on the same street as her business, the newspapers reported.
"You can't make any big money selling sex in St. Pauli any more," she was quoted as saying, referring to the area that includes the red-light district. "The only thing still in operation are the table dance clubs."

The club's heyday was in the 1970s, when it was open 7 days a week, with 12 prostitutes on hand.

"Our customers were well off, they didn't scrimp," she said. "That's also changed today."

Hotel Luxor today employs four prostitutes, and is only open Tuesday through Friday nights.

"Two thousand euros (US$3,080) per night - it was like that once," one of the women, who gave her name only as "Nicole," told the Morgenpost. "Now I can only dream of that. I've been here a year and only earn around euro200 (US$308) per shift."

Now YOU know, when brothels are having a hard time staying in business, the worlds economy is really screwed up. Hey, and this was NO ORDINARY place, this is/was a landmark. I'm telling YOU, the Universe and Earth are under going a major cyclical change. When sex and gambling start to fall off, "it's time to check the calendar".

Good consensual sex rules,

Sopranos Movie?

'Sopranos' Movie Rumor Revealed

LODI, N.J. (AP) - Hold the poles! Is a Sopranos movie in the works? The real-life manager of the strip club that fronted for the Bada Bing on HBO's "The Sopranos" thinks there might be. Satin Dolls manager Nick D'Urso says he's holding off on renovations to the strip club in Lodi, N.J., after getting a tip that a movie would be made. He wouldn't name the tipster.

An HBO spokeswoman says there's no truth to the rumor that plans are in the works for a film about Tony Soprano and his mob crew. As first reported in The Record of Bergen County, D'Urso says he'll wait until after the summer to renovate in case the tip pans out. Satin Dolls has already auctioned off its bronze-colored stripper poles and replaced them.

Nick D'Urso, is the director of Satin Dolls, the gentleman's club in Lodi, N.J., that serves as the Bada Bing in 'The Sopranos.' He's put plans to renovate the bar on hold amid rumors that there may be a movie in the works.

Well, let's keep our fingers crossed that there is a movie. That would be worth waiting for.

Congratulations Hillary, Let's Keep It Going

Congratulations to Hillary Clinton on her primary wins on Tuesday March 4. It was such a pleasure to see her get some due for a change. Hopefully, this will give her some momentum moving forward. I still believe she is the best of the field for the nomination and presidency. Therefore, she will emerge victorious.

Nothing personal Barack, but, it is not your time yet. Sit back and get some playing time and wait for your turn. Oh, and try to reign in your wife, who happens to turn alot of people off.

Doomsday Vault Planning For The Future

'Doomsday Vault' to Protect World's Seeds

LONGYEARBYEN, Norway (Feb. 26) - A "doomsday" seed vault built to protect millions of food crops from climate change, wars and natural disasters opened Tuesday deep within an Arctic mountain in the remote Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.

"The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is our insurance policy," Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg told delegates at the opening ceremony. "It is the Noah's Ark for securing biological diversity for future generations."

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai of Kenya were among the dozens of guests who had bundled up for the ceremony inside the vault, about 425 feet deep inside a frozen mountain.

"This is a frozen Garden of Eden," Barroso said.

The vault will serve as a backup for hundreds of other seed banks worldwide. It has the capacity to store 4.5 million seed samples from around the world and shield them from man-made and natural disasters.

Dug into the permafrost of the mountain, it has been built to withstand an earthquake or a nuclear strike.

Norway owns the vault in Svalbard, a frigid archipelago about 620 miles from the North Pole. It paid $9.1 million for construction, which took less than a year. Other countries can deposit seeds without charge and reserve the right to withdraw them upon need.

The operation is funded by the Global Crop Diversity Trust, which was founded by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization and Biodiversity International, a Rome-based research group.

"Crop diversity will soon prove to be our most potent and indispensable resource for addressing climate change, water and energy supply constraints, and for meeting the food needs of a growing population," said Cary Fowler, head of the Global Crop Diversity Trust.

Svalbard is cold, but giant air conditioning units have chilled the vault further to -0.4 Fahrenheit, a temperature at which experts say many seeds could last for 1,000 years.

Stoltenberg and Maathai delivered the first box of seeds to the vault during the opening ceremony — a container of rice seeds from 104 countries.

"This is unique. This is very visionary. It is a precaution for the future," Maathai, a Crop Diversity Trust board member, told The Associated Press after the ceremony.

The seeds are packed in silvery foil containers — as many as 500 in each sample — and placed on blue and orange metal shelves inside three 32-foot-by-88-foot storage chambers. Each vault can hold 1.5 million sample packages of all types of crop seeds, from carrots to wheat.

Construction leader Magnus Bredeli-Tveiten said the vault is designed to withstand earthquakes — successfully tested by a 6.2-magnitude temblor off Svalbard last week — and even a direct nuclear strike.

Many other seed banks are in less protected areas. For example, war wiped out seed banks in Iraq and Afghanistan, and one in the Philippines was flooded in the wake of a typhoon in 2006.

I don't know about YOU, but, I think this is a pretty cool story. Once again, it shows that there are some humans on this Earth that do care and are trying to look out for the future instead of running around like "the brainless idiots" they are killing each other and basically reversing any strides humanity has taken.

Hope YOU enjoy reading this kind of stuff as much as I enjoy posting it. Remember, "opyn mindz" make for better lives all around.
