Anak Krakatau Volcano Growing

Photos Show Killer Volcano Reawakening

An Italian scientist who went to Indonesia in June to photograph Anak Krakatau against the night sky came back with stunning images of the reawakening volcano, London's Daily Mail reported.

Anak Krakatau was spawned by Krakatau, which killed 36,000 people in a huge eruption in 1883 ("anak" means "child"). Marco Fulle, an Italian astronomer and volcano expert, took the photos from June 4 to 8.

Fulle said the volcano is expected to produce another catastrophic eruption someday. Anak Krakatau sprouted from Krakatau's original cone and has been growing steadily since 1927.

"The common opinion is that Krakatau will become again really dangerous when it reaches the size it had been in 1883," he told the Daily Mail. "It was two times taller than now."

Fulle, 51, is part of a group of scientists who contribute to Stromboli Online, a collection of volcano images.

Anak Krakatau erupted in November 2007, but it had been quiet until last spring, the Daily Mail said. Nearly two months after Fulle's trip, it's still rumbling.

Want to know more about Krakatau? San Diego State University's geology department has an overview of the 1883 blast. And if you're hungry for more volcano photos, click through our gallery below on recent eruptions.

Super Tsunami & You

West Coast Tsunami Threat Increases

The threat of a devastating tsunami hitting the U.S. West Coast might be higher than previously thought, scientists say, based on a new study of earthquake faults off the coast of Alaska.

Tsunamis are often triggered by earthquakes, as was the case with the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which was sparked by the 9.3-magnitude Sumatra-Andaman subduction quake in the same ocean. The tsunami killed nearly a quarter of a million people.

The new research suggests that future tsunamis could reach a scale far beyond that suffered in a 1964 tsunami generated by the great 9.2-magnitude Alaskan earthquake — "the most devastating seismic sea wave to impact the northwestern coast of the U.S. in historical time," said study team member Ron Bruhn, a geologist at the University of Utah.

That tsunami killed about 130 people, according to official records: 114 in Alaska and 16 in Oregon and California, including several who heard it was coming and went down to the coast to watch.

Researchers looked at ancient fault segments off the coast of Alaska and determined that the rupture of an even larger area than the 1964 rupture zone could create an even bigger, more devastating tsunami.

While warning systems are in place on the West Coast of North America, the findings, detailed in the journal Quaternary Science Reviews, suggest a need for a review of evacuation plans in the region.

Past temblors

A research team from Durham University in the United Kingdom, the University of Utah and Plafker Geohazard Consultants gauged the extent of earthquakes along the U.S. West Coast over the past 2,000 years by studying subsoil samples and sediment sequences at sites along the Alaskan coast.

The team radiocarbon-dated peat layers and sediments, and analyzed the distribution of mud, sand and peat within them. The data indicate that two major earthquakes have struck Alaska in the past 1,500 years — specifically, about 900 and 1,500 years ago. The results suggest that earthquakes in the region may rupture even larger segments of the coast and sea floor than was previously thought.

"Our radiocarbon-dated samples suggest that previous earthquakes were 15 percent bigger in terms of the area affected than the 1964 event," said lead author of the study, Ian Shennan of Durham University. "This historical evidence of widespread, simultaneous plate rupturing within the Alaskan region has significant implications for the tsunami potential of the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific region as a whole."

The research was funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Tsunami trigger

Tsunamis can be created by the rapid displacement of water when the sea floor lifts and/or falls due to crustal movements that accompany very large earthquakes. The movement acts like a giant paddle. The shallow nature of the sea floor off the coast of Alaska could increase the destructive potential of a tsunami wave in the Pacific.

Tsunamis are not always a given though: In 1899 and 1979, large earthquakes occurred in the region but did not trigger tsunamis because the rupturing was localized beneath the land instead of the sea floor.

But a quake whose effect is spread out over a longer distance could have a devastating impact.

"In the case of a multirupture event, the energy imparted to the tsunami will be larger but spread out over a longer strike distance," Bruhn said. "Except for the small communities at the tsunami source in Alaska, the longer length will have more of an effect on areas farther from the source such as southeastern Alaska, British Columbia, and the U.S. West Coast from Washington to California."

Pacific Ocean tsunami warning systems, first put in place in the 1940s and improved in 2004 after the Indian Ocean tsunami, help, but tsunamis could still do considerable damage. (No comparison was made between the potential future tsunamis and the Indian Ocean disaster, which happened in a different part of the Pacific Ocean.)

"Earthquakes can hit at any time of the day or night, and that’s a big challenge for emergency planners," Shennan said. "A tsunami in this region could cause damage and threaten life from Alaska to California and beyond."

Do I need another reason to NOT live on the west coast? The bad thing about all of this, "it could happen at ANY given moment with NO warning"! As I always say, "pay attention".

Marijuana Tax In Oakland

Oakland Voters OK Tax on Marijuana

OAKLAND, Calif. (July 22) -- Oakland residents overwhelmingly voted Tuesday to approve a first-of-its kind tax on medical marijuana sold at the city's four cannabis dispensaries.

Preliminary election results showed the measure passing with 80 percent of the vote, according to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

The dispensary tax was one of four measures in a vote-by-mail special election aimed at raising money for the cash-strapped city. All four measures won, but Measure F had the highest level of support.

Scheduled to take effect on New Year's Day, the measure created a special business tax rate for the pot clubs, which now pay the same $1.20 for every $1,000 in gross sales applied to all retail businesses. The new rate will be $18.

Oakland's auditor estimates that based on annual sales of $17.5 million for the four clubs, it will generate an estimated $294,000 for city coffers in its first year.

Pot club owners, who openly sell pot over the counter under the 1996 state ballot measure that legalized medical marijuana use in California, proposed Measure F as a way to further legitimize their establishments.

"It's good business and good for the community," said Richard Lee, who owns the Coffee Shop SR-71 dispensary and Oaksterdam University, a trade school for budding dispensary workers.

The measure had no formal opposition; in November 2004, a ballot initiative that required Oakland police to make arresting adults using marijuana for personal use their lowest priority passed with 63 percent of the vote.

Support for Measure F was expected to be just as strong. As a result and given the mail-in nature of the election, there was little campaign activity, according to Lee.

"We put out signs, but outside of that it's been pretty low-key," said Lee, who hosted a victory party at Oaksterdam University's Student Union building in downtown Oakland.

Although California's 800 or so pot clubs also are expected to pay state sales tax, Oakland is the first city in the country to create a special tax on marijuana sales.

Advocates of legalizing pot for recreational use hope to use Oakland's experience with Measure F to persuade California voters next year to approve a measure that would legalize and regulate marijuana like alcohol.

Another step closer to total legalization of marijuana. Everybody needs to wake up and smell the "herb". This is a great way to raise money in this time of need. It is also a great way to save money by decriminalizing marijuana. Think of all the wasted cash going to punish people for a little pot. Are people really that stupid? Well, yeah. Unfortunately.

Vanity Of Humanity

Cotopaxi volcano Ecuador & Sun
On a ride to the Orlando International Airport today, I had the pleasure of conversing with an intelligent soul thiat is quite awake and intune with himself and his surroundings. As we were discussing world events such as economies, oil, human rights, wars, religion and climate/environment, he made the statement, "people think they control and have the final say on everything". In response, I blurted out, "that's the vanity of humanity". We both kind of looked at each other and agreed, "what a great statement, and, it pretty much sums it all up".

The vanity of humanity. People actually think they control what goes on with this planet. They think they have all the answers. We control the climate. We control all the resources. We control all the life forms. We control the people. We control just about everything. So we believe. However, we are no different than the Romans, Egyptians, Mayans and numerous other "gone" cultures and civilizations. And one day, we will be "gone" just like them because of our own "vanity". The problem with this "vanity" is that, while YOU think YOU are in control and running the show, the forces and powers that ARE running the show have completely "defragged and rebooted" and YOU had no idea what happened and why YOU no longer are.

The one sure fire way to NOT get caught and blindsided, keep an "opyn mind" and pay attention to what is going on. NOT just in your little bubble, but, what is going on planet wide. Socially, economically and environmentally. Don't let your "vanity" contribute to the end of "humanity".

The Big One, Is It Coming?

Tremors Detected on San Andreas Fault

Scientists have detected a spike in underground rumblings on a section of California's San Andreas Fault that produced a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in 1857.

What these mysterious vibrations say about future earthquakes is far from certain. But some think the deep tremors suggest underground stress may be building up faster than expected and may indicate an increased risk of a major temblor.

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, monitored seismic activity on the fault's central section between July 2001 and February 2009 and recorded more than 2,000 tremors. The tremors lasted mere minutes to nearly half an hour.

Unlike earthquakes, tremors occur deeper below the surface and the shaking lasts longer.

During the study period, two strong earthquakes hit — a magnitude-6.5 in 2003 and a magnitude-6.0 a year later. Scientists noticed the frequency of the tremors doubled after the 2003 quake and jumped six-fold after 2004.

Tremor episodes persist today. Though the frequency of tremors have declined since 2004, scientists are still concerned because they are still at a level that is twice as high as before the 2003 quake.

The team also recorded unusually strong rumblings days before the 2004 temblor.

Results of the research appear in Friday's issue of the journal Science. The work was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey and National Science Foundation.

"The fact that the tremors haven't gone down means the time to the next earthquake may come sooner," said Berkeley seismologist and lead researcher Robert Nadeau.

Nadeau first discovered tremors deep in the San Andreas Fault in 2005. Before that, the phenomenon was thought only to occur in Earth's subduction zones, where one tectonic plate dives beneath another.

USGS seismologist Susan Hough found the latest observations intriguing, but said it's too soon to know what they mean.

"We don't have enough data to know what the fault is doing in the long term," said Hough, who had no part in the research.

On May 22, 1960 in southern Chile, there was a 9.5 magnitude earthquake that killed 1886 people and created a tsunami that killed many many more in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. It is the strongest quake on record. Could this happen with this fault? Possibly. Right now, the planet is under going some "cyclical" shifts and changes globally. Volcanoes, quakes, temperature fluctuations, and a variety of other climatic anomalies. As I always say, "pay attention to what is going on around YOU and your world". It just might be your salvation to know what is going on! To my friends in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Oregon and Washington, YOU are all in the "top ten" worst earthquake" states. Please, pay attention!

Space Fireballs Coming To Earth

Military Covering Up Fireballs From Space

For 15 years, scientists have benefited from data gleaned by U.S. classified satellites of natural fireball events in Earth's atmosphere — but no longer.

A recent U.S. military policy decision now explicitly states that observations by hush-hush government spacecraft of incoming bolides and fireballs are classified secret and are not to be released, SPACE.com has learned.

The satellites' main objectives include detecting nuclear bomb tests, and their characterizations of asteroids and lesser meteoroids as they crash through the atmosphere has been a byproduct data bonanza for scientists.

The upshot: Space rocks that explode in the atmosphere are now classified.

"It's baffling to us why this would suddenly change," said one scientist familiar with the work. "It's unfortunate because there was this great synergy ... a very good cooperative arrangement. Systems were put into dual-use mode where a lot of science was getting done that couldn't be done any other way. It's a regrettable change in policy."

Scientists say not only will research into the threat from space be hampered, but public understanding of sometimes dramatic sky explosions will be diminished, perhaps leading to hype and fear of the unknown.

Incoming!

Most "shooting stars" are caused by natural space debris no larger than peas.

But routinely, rocks as big as basketballs and even small cars crash into the atmosphere.

Most vaporize or explode on the way in, but some reach the surface or explode above the surface.

Understandably, scientists want to know about these events so they can better predict the risk here on Earth.

Yet because the world is two-thirds ocean, most incoming objects aren't visible to observers on the ground. Many other incoming space rocks go unnoticed because daylight drowns them out.

Over the last decade or so, hundreds of these events have been spotted by the classified satellites.

Priceless observational information derived from the spacecraft were made quickly available, giving researchers such insights as time, a location, height above the surface, as well as light-curves to help pin down the amount of energy churned out from the fireballs.

And in the shaky world we now live, it's nice to know that a sky-high detonation is natural instead of a nuclear-weapon blast.

Where the space-based surveillance truly shines is over remote stretches of ocean — far away from the prospect of ground-based data collection.

But all that ended within the last few months, leaving scientists blind-sided and miffed by the shift in policy. The hope is that the policy decision will be revisited and overturned.

Critical importance

"The fireball data from military or surveillance assets have been of critical importance for assessing the impact hazard," said David Morrison, a Near Earth Object (NEO) scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center. He noted that his views are his own, not as a NASA spokesperson.

The size of the average largest atmospheric impact from small asteroids is a key piece of experimental data to anchor the low-energy end of the power-law distribution of impactors, from asteroids greater than 6 miles (10 kilometers) in diameter down to the meter scale, Morrison told SPACE.com.

"These fireball data together with astronomical observations of larger near-Earth asteroids define the nature of the impact hazard and allow rational planning to deal with this issue," Morrison said.Morrison said that fireball data are today playing additional important roles.

As example, the fireball data together with infrasound allowed scientists to verify the approximate size and energy of the unique Carancas impact in the Altiplano — on the Peru-Bolivia border — on Sept. 15, 2007.

Fireball information also played an important part in the story of the small asteroid 2008 TC3, Morrison said.

That was the first-ever case of the astronomical detection of a small asteroid before it hit last year .

The fireball data were key for locating the impact point and the subsequent recovery of fragments from this impact.

Link in public understanding

Astronomers are closing in on a years-long effort to find most of the potentially devastating large asteroids in our neck of the cosmic woods, those that could cause widespread regional or global devastation. Now they plan to look for the smaller stuff.

So it is ironic that the availability of these fireball data should be curtailed just at the time the NEO program is moving toward surveying the small impactors that are most likely to be picked up in the fireball monitoring program, Morrision said.

"These data have been available to the scientific community for the past decade," he said. "It is unfortunate this information is shut off just when it is becoming more valuable to the community interested in characterizing near Earth asteroids and protecting our planet from asteroid impacts."

The newly issued policy edict by the U.S. military of reporting fireball observations from satellites also caught the attention of Clark Chapman, a planetary scientist and asteroid impact expert at Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado.

"I think that this information is very important to make public," Chapman told SPACE.com.

"More important than the scientific value, I think, is that these rare, bright fireballs provide a link in public understanding to the asteroid impact hazard posed by still larger and less frequent asteroids," Chapman explained.

Those objects are witnessed by unsuspecting people in far-flung places, Chapman said, often generating incorrect and exaggerated reports.

"The grounding achieved by associating these reports by untrained observers with the satellite measurements is very useful for calibrating the observer reports and closing the loop with folks who think they have seen something mysterious and extraordinary," Chapman said.

2012 & Bobby's Innervision

"elevating yourself to a higher consciousness is a primary reason for being. As your mind ascends, you tend to have less patience with those who are not elevating themselves. It is frustrating at times to say the least. In a way, it is also sad. It's almost like saying, "hey, YOU are my friend or acquaintence, and, I cherish our relationship, however, to stay instep with YOU, would be short changing my elevation and growth". They may be comfortable where they are because they have not "awaken" yet. However, YOU, have to move forward and higher to fulfill your destiny of knowing".....

This is something that has been playing in my head for awhile now and I just wanted to lay it out. I come in contact with so many people on a daily basis, and, unfortunately, compared to where my head is now, the majority of these people are "light years" out of the loop on almost everything. When I do come in contact with souls that are on par with where I am, or, a little pass me, "it's like hitting the lottery".

Big things are coming our way in the not to distant future. It would be great to see more souls waking up and paying attention and preparing themselves instead of wallowing in self thought about stuff and things that really mean nothing. YOU might want to check this site out for some awakening thoughts. Whether taken seriously or dismissed as sci-fi, it is thought provoking. http://www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/#/home

Global/Polar Shift Conversations

Possible map after a shift
In the last 5 days, I have had the pleasure of spending time with oncology(cancer)doctors from all around the globe. They were gathered here in Orlando, Florida for a convention/conference. It was a great opportunity for me to get to pick the brains of knowledgeable intelligent beings from other places on the planet and from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Although we conversed on the medical aspects of what they do and, were here for, the conversations easily slipped into global concerns such as climate, energy and water. Almost everyone I conversed with, agreed that there is global climate change happening. Just about everyone also does not subscribe to "global warming" or the fact that what we are under going is manmade. They all attribute what is taking place to "cyclical" changes that the planet goes through. A number of these well informed and "awake" souls also told me of weather conditions that have been taking place in the last 2-3 years that have never before occurred in their country or part of the world. Exceptional amounts of snow, colder than average temps, warmer than average temps, pro longed cold/hot wet/dry seasons extending well beyond their normal periods. We are undergoing a planetary, and possibly, polar shift. There have been numerous shifts before us. There will be many more after us.

If YOU would like to read some more on possible coming events, go to Pole Shift & Pole Reversal between now & 2012 - David Icke's Official Forums As I have said many times before, "pay attention to what is happening on your planet and world".

Dogs And Cats Raise 5 Year Old

Russian Girl Raised by Dogs, Cats

MOSCOW (May 27) - A 5-year-old Russian girl found in a filthy apartment imitating the cats and dogs she was shut up with has been placed in state custody as authorities consider neglect charges against her father and other relatives.

Officials said the girl barks like a dog, laps food directly off the plate and seems to have been "raised" by the animals.

Police in the Transbaikal region of Siberia said Wednesday that the girl was kept shut up with the animals in the regional capital, Chita. She lived in the apartment with relatives, including her father and grandparents.

Larisa Popova, head of the children's affairs unit at the local police precinct, told state-run Rossiya television that the girl had developed feral characteristics.

"The child lived in unsanitary conditions. There was a horrible stench," Popova said. "There were many animals — both dogs and cats. In all probability, the girl lived with and was raised by these animals."

Police said the girl understands Russian but rarely speaks. They are gathering evidence to support neglect charges.

Nina Yemelyanova, head of the reception department at a children's home where the girl has been placed, said the child appears to mimic the behavior of animals.

"Today, when I left the room, she jumped up to the door and started to bark," Yemelyanova told Rossiya television. "And she does not know how to behave at the table — when she eats, the tries to put the spoon aside and lap from the dish."

Regional police said water, heat and gas to the apartment had long since been shut off for nonpayment.

The ITAR-Tass news agency cited the girl's mother as saying the child's father had taken her away without her permission when she was 2 1/2 years old. But the father claimed his mother-in-law had asked him to take the child because the mother was not taking proper care of her, the news agency quoted regional police spokesman Yegor Markov as saying.

Markov said the father could be charged with neglect of a minor, which carries a prison sentence of up to three years.

Chita is 2,900 miles east of Moscow.

Once again, animals show their superiority to humans. This is the third story I have come across in the last year, like this, and, from Russia! Forget about where it is from, the main focus is on "how screwed up we humans are/or have become". As I have said time and again, "remove the technology factor, and animals are far superior, caring, compassionate and thoughtful than humans".

Melting Ice, Problems With Water

A 3.3m sea level rise will still have a devastating impact on coastal areas

Ice sheet melt threat reassessed

The collapse of a major polar ice sheet will not raise global sea levels as much as previous projections suggest, a team of scientists has calculated.

Writing in Science, the researchers said that the demise of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) would result in a sea level rise of 3.3m (10 ft).

Previous estimates had forecast a rise in the region of five to six metres.

However, they added, the rise would still pose a serious threat to major coastal cities, such as New York.

"Sea level rise is considered to be the one of the most serious consequence of climate change," lead author Jonathan Bamber told the Science podcast.

"A sea level rise of just 1.5m would displace 17 million people in Bangladesh alone," he added.

"So it is of the utmost importance to understand the potential threats to coastlines and people living in coastal areas."

Professor Bamber, from the University of Bristol's Glaciology Centre, said that the WAIS posed "potentially one of the most serious threats".

The world has three ice sheets, Greenland, East Antarctica and West Antarctica, but it is the latter that is considered most vulnerable to climatic shifts.

"It has been hypothesised for more than 30 years now that the WAIS is inherently unstable," he explained.

"This instability means that the ice sheet could potentially rapidly collapse or rapidly put a lot of ice into the oceans."

When the idea first emerged in the late 1970s, it was estimated that global sea level would rise by five metres if the WAIS collapsed.

Current projections suggest that a complete collapse of WAIS would result in an increase of up to six metres.

But Professor Bamber said that no-one had revisited the calculation, despite new data sets becoming available, and scientists developing a better understanding of the dynamics in the vast ice sheets.

The original estimates were based on "very basic ice thickness data", he explained.

"Ice thickness data gives you information about the depth of the bedrock underneath the ice sheet.

"Over the past 30 years, we have acquired much more ice thickness data over the whole of Antarctica, particularly over West Antarctica.

"We also have much better surface topography. Those two data sets are critical in determining two things."

The first was knowing the volume of ice that could contribute to sea level rise, and the second was a better understanding of the proportion of WAIS that was potentially susceptible to this instability.

Instead of assuming that the entire WAIS would collapse, causing sea level to rise by up to six metres, Professor Bamber and colleagues used models based on glaciological theory to simulate how the 2.2 million-cubic-km ice sheet would respond.

"Our reassessment of West Antarctica's contribution to sea level rise if the ice sheet was to collapse is about 3.3 metres," he said.

"That is about half of the value that has been quoted up until now."

The team's study also calculated what regions were likely to experience the biggest increases in sea level.

"Sea level rise is not uniform across the world's oceans, partly as a result of disruptions to the Earth's gravity field," explained Professor Bamber.

"It turns out that the maximum increase in sea level rise is centred at a latitude of about 40 degrees along the Atlantic and Pacific seaboards of North America."

This would include cities such as San Francisco and New York.

These areas could expect increases of one-and-a-quarter times the global average, the team estimated.

In other words, if the global average was one metre, then places like New York could expect to see a rise of 1.25m.

Responding to Professor Bamber's paper in Science, British Antarctic Survey science leader Dr David Vaughan described the findings as "quite sound".

"But for me, the most crucial question is not solely about the total amount of ice in West Antarctica, because that might take several centuries to be lost to the ocean," he told BBC News.

"The crucial question is how much ice could be lost in 100-200 years; that's the sea level rise we have to understand and plan for.

"Even with this new assessment the loss of a fraction of WAIS over those timescales would have serious consequences and costs that we've only really just begun to understand."

I know this is probably boring and scarry stuff for some of YOU, however, it is a fact. All I am trying to do is to keep those of YOU that want to be aware, aware.

On another note that begs paying attention too, that is closely related to the above story, is the plight of "water". For those of YOU that saw the latest James Bond movie, "Quantum Of Solace", this was art pointing up reality. The front page of orlandosentinel.com lead story on Saturday May 16, addressed the water problem going on in Florida right now. Here are a couple of other facts dealing with water.

1)884 million people worldwide, (roughly 1 in 8) lack access to safe water, that's two and a half times the entire U.S. population.

2)The average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water per day is 4 miles and the average weight that women carry on their heads is approximately 40 pounds.

Drink White Tea, Fight Weight

White Tea Fights Obesity, Scientists Say

(May 1) - White tea has special qualities that could help fight obesity, German scientists announced Thursday.

The researchers studied the biological effects of an extract of white tea and found compounds that appear to impede the growth of new fat cells as well as target existing stores.

"We've shown that white tea may be an ideal natural source of slimming substances," said Marc Winnefeld, who led the team of researchers.

White tea is made from the buds and first leaves of the tea plant. Like green tea, it undergoes very little processing and no fermentation.

Aside from the weight reduction properties of this tea, it is also good. I drink a variety of white tea mixed with other fruits and berries. Might want to give it a try along with your green tea etc.

Astronaut, NASA, UFO'S - Truth Or Lie

'We're Not Alone,' Ex-Astronaut Says

(April 21) -- Earth Day may fall later this week, but as far as former NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other UFO enthusiasts are concerned, the real story is happening elsewhere.

Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the United States and other governments.

He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.

Mankind has long wondered if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.

"Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. ... We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."

Mitchell grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, which some UFO believers maintain was the site of a UFO crash in 1947. He said residents of his hometown "had been hushed and told not to talk about their experience by military authorities." They had been warned of "dire consequences" if they did so.

But, he claimed, they "didn't want to go to the grave with their story. They wanted to tell somebody reliable. And being a local boy and having been to the moon, they considered me reliable enough to whisper in my ear their particular story."

Roughly 10 years ago, Mitchell claimed, he was finally given an appointment at Pentagon to discuss what he had been told.

An unnamed admiral working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff promised to uncover the truth behind the Roswell story, Mitchell said. The stories of a UFO crash "were confirmed," but the admiral was then denied access when he "tried to get into the inner workings of that process."

The same admiral, Mitchell claimed, now denies the story.

"I urge those who are doubtful: Read the books, read the lore, start to understand what has really been going on. Because there really is no doubt we are being visited," he said.

"The universe that we live in is much more wondrous, exciting, complex and far-reaching than we were ever able to know up to this point in time."

A NASA spokesman denied any cover-up.

"NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover-up about alien life on this planet or anywhere else -- period," Michael Cabbage said Monday.

Debates have continued about what happened at Roswell. The U.S. Air Force said in 1994 that wreckage recovered there in 1947 was most likely from a balloon-launched classified government project.

Stephen Bassett, head of the Paradigm Research Group (PRG), which hosted the X-Conference, said that the truth about extraterrestrial life is being suppressed because it is politically explosive.

"There is a third rail [in American politics], and that is the UFO question. It is many magnitudes more radioactive than Social Security ever dreamed to be," Bassett said.

Well, there YOU have it! Just like it has been for as long as I can remember. I still firmly believe, and, "I think anyone with a brain should also believe". One thing is for sure though, "somebody is NOT telling the truth"!

Asteroids And Solar Storms - What's Next?

Huge Solar Storm Could Shut Down US

April 21) - A massive solar storm could be catastrophic for the United States and other countries, scientists warn.

Such a storm could knock out power nationwide, ABCNews.com reported, leading to a nightmarish scenario that could include failures of transportation, communication and financial systems; shutdowns of government services; and a lack of safe drinking water, food and medication.

Solar storms form when intense bursts of plasma erupt from the surface of the sun, creating what's called a coronal mass ejection (CME). These eruptions can produce electromagnetic interference that wreaks havoc with electricity-dependent technology on Earth.

Although the probability of a worst-case scenario solar storm event is low, researchers say that our increasing reliance on technology makes it crucial to be prepared for such a calamity.

"The consequences could be extreme," Roberta Balstad, a research scientist with Columbia University's Center for Research on Environmental Decisions, told ABCNews.com.

In 1859, a powerful solar storm fried telegraph systems around the world. Another one caused a blackout in Quebec, Canada, 20 years ago.

Michael Kaiser, project scientist for NASA's Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO) mission, told ABCNews.com that even if a big solar storm were to hit the nation, power grid operators could minimize the damage if they had enough of a warning.

Kaiser said he and his colleagues are working to refine their ability to better predict solar storms before they happen. "We're getting smarter now," he added.

Well, we just had an asteroid headed our way in a few years, and now, "here is something else to look forward to", possibly. I have enough problems with my electronics as it is. DO NOT need a solar storm to screw them up even more!

If YOU Are Still Here - Apophis

Possible? Maybe...
Experts Keeping Close Eye on Asteroid

An asteroid the size of a 25-story building will come within 18,000 miles of Earth on April 13, 2029 -- closer than the communication satellites that orbit the planet, Discovery.com reported.

The asteroid, called Apophis, has only a 1 on in 45,000 chance of colliding with Earth. But it will then be back for another shot seven years after that.

It's hard for astronomers to determine what kind of threat Apophis poses in 2036 because its orbit will be bent by gravity during its 2029 flyby, Discovery reported.

During the 2029 visit, the asteroid is expected to be visible to the naked eye at night.

Apophis, which was discovered in 2004, is about 210 to 330 meters, or 690 to 1080 feet, in diameter, according to NASA.

In comparison, the asteroid thought to have wiped out dinosaurs 50 million years ago was 6.2 miles in size. In more recent history, an asteroid that was about 50 meters, or 164 feet, exploded over Siberia, an unpopulated part of Russia, in 1908. It torched or blew down trees in an 800-square mile area, Discovery reported last year.

"As things get bigger, the amount of devastation goes up dramatically," but so does the length of time between occurrences, Nick Kaiser, the lead scientist of a new University of Hawaii asteroid-hunting project, told Discovery.

A half-mile diameter object hitting Earth would be likely to cause a global catastrophe, Kaiser said. But events like that happen only every couple of million years.

This object is predicted to come historically close, about a 1 in 800 year event, NASA said.

Scientists expect to know more detail about Apophis' future orbits in 2013 and 2021, when the asteroid will come within 9 million miles of Earth. That will put it close enough for radar studies.

So, if YOU are still here in 2029, which is only 20 years from now, here is something else for YOU to worry about. However, if any of the possible events surrounding 2012 took place, and, YOU survived that, why worry about an asteroid? Either way, this is just something else YOU may want to keep an eye on in the coming years.

Volcanic Lightning In Eruption(Redoubt)

Volcano's Lightning Captured in Photo

(April 8) - For the first time, scientists have been able to "see" and trace lightning inside a plume of ash spewing from an actively erupting volcano.

When Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano began rumbling back to life in January, a team of researchers scrambled to set up a system called a Lightning Mapping Array that would be able to peer through the dust and gas of any eruption that occurred to the lightning storm happening within. Lightning is known to flash in the tumultuous clouds belched out during volcanic eruptions.

The lightning produced when Redoubt finally erupted on March 22 was "prolific," said physicist Paul Krehbiel of New Mexico Tech.

"The lightning activity was as strong or stronger than we have seen in large Midwestern thunderstorms," Krehbiel said. "The radio frequency noise was so strong and continuous that people living in the area would not have been able to watch broadcast VHF television stations."

Lightning mapping arrays are increasingly being used by meteorologists to issue weather warnings, but have only been deployed at volcanoes twice before.

Thousands of individual segments of a single lightning stroke can be mapped with these arrays, and later analyzed to reveal how lightning initiates and spreads through a thunderstorm, or in a volcanic plume.

After setting up the arrays, researchers waited nearly two months for Redoubt's first eruption, but the wait was worth it.

"For the first time, we had the Lightning Mapping Array on site before the initial eruption," said scientist Sonja Behnke of New Mexico Tech.

The eruptions that continued to occur on March 22 and 23 provided plenty of data, and the arrays returned dramatic information about the electricity created within volcanic plumes, and the resulting lightning. As of today, Redoubt has erupted several times since its initial eruption on March 22.

"The data will allow us to better understand the electrical charge structure inside a volcanic plume," said scientist Ron Thomas of New Mexico Tech. "That should help us learn how the plume is becoming electrified, and how it evolves over time."

A recent study in the journal Nature found that volcanic plumes spin like tornadic thunderstorms, a finding which helps to explain the lightning storms, as well as the waterspouts and dust devils produced by some volcanic plumes.

The New Mexico Tech researchers plan to compare the Redoubt data with observations taken from Chaiten Volcano in Chile last year. The project was funded by the National Science Foundation.

Redoubt hasn't finished making noise yet; after quieting down for a few days, Redoubt exploded again, with the last major eruption occurring on March 28. Scientists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory expect the eruptions will continue periodically for weeks to months.

Volcanoes are probably the most amazing things on the planet. As terrifying as they are and can be, without them, we wouldn't have any land to live on. They are utterly fascinating!

Hiring Hotties - Need A Job?

Strip Club Job Fair Recruits Unemployed Hotties

In a perfect opportunity for all those laid-off naughty nurses and sexy librarians to find new jobs, a Rhode Island strip club is hosting a job fair this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The owners of the Foxy Lady in Providence say they hope the bad economy might entice some people to consider one of the 30 open positions, from strippers and waitresses to disc jockeys and bartenders.

"I need more managers, I need more competent staff, and I need more attractive waitresses to go along with the ones I have right now," says co-owner Tom Tsoumas. The Foxy Lady's Web site also mentions opportunities in the up-and-coming field of "massage girl."

Despite the AP's statement that stripping is "a job opportunity you won't need to buy a new wardrobe for," we're going to go out on a limb and say that unless you already work as a G-string model or lingerie tester, you will in fact have to invest in some new clothes.

Hey, in this time period, "a job is a job". As long as YOU are not hurting someone else, doing something illegal, or, are being forced to do something against your will, "GO FOR IT"! It beats foreclosure and being hungry. Besides, if YOU have the right stuff, why waste it. USE IT!!!

Bobby Sharpe - Shields Down(Today) - 4 Words

For those of YOU that read my blogs on a fairly regular basis(thank YOU), YOU probably know that I am pretty hardcore and straight to the point. I pull very few punches and take NO prisoners. Some of YOU probably think I'm not even human half the time. Well, that's okay, because, THAT is who I am and what I do. However, I do periodically, "drop my shields" and let the humanity traits come forth. YOU know, sadness, anger, disappointment, hurt, all those "good" kind of things that make humans.

Today, March 17, 2009, I had one of those "shields down" days. It all started by riding past a "closed and shuttered" Bennigans. Not too many years ago, St. Patty's Day and Bennigans, went together like hand and glove. IT was just wrong for Bennigans NOT to be opened on this day. To make matters even worse, less than 2 blocks away, a Fridays was also closed and shuttered. A half a block away from that, a Pizzeria Uno suffered the same fate. As did a Straubs Seafood Rest. that had been around for years. Not to mention about another handful of stores in this 3-4 block stretch on a major roadway in Orlando Florida. This brought out the "sadness" and "hurt". Not only did I frequent these places, but alot of my friends and clients worked at these places and are now unemployed.

The above paragraph lead to the "anger" and "disappointment". Because of 4 words, "stupidity", "greed", "vanity" and "incompetence", the above scenario is playing out all over this country and planet. It is, to say the least, "heartbreaking" and a very sad day for humanity.

Having restored my shields to full strength, it is time for my awakened self to acknowledge the big picture. What we are seeing taking place on this planet these days, economically and environmentally, in computer terminology, "is a disc cleanup and a defrag" of our hard drive, WHICH, is the planet itself. When it is all said and done, as has happened in the past many times, there will be alot less of everything, including us. What remains though, will be what needs to be for the prosperity of the planet and the future of life here on Earth. And believe me, there is nothing we can or will do to affect what will be.

Weed - Grow It, Smoke It, Tax It!

"Legalize it or else"

Oregon Bill Proposes State Grow, Distribute, Tax Medical Marijuana

SALEM, Ore — The Oregon Legislature's latest idea for a tax? Medical marijuana.

The state would take over growing and distributing marijuana to patients in the medical-marijuana program under a bill introduced Wednesday. Sponsored by Rep. Ron Maurer, R-Grants Pass, House Bill 3274 imposes a $98-per-ounce tax, which would cover the state's cost of operating and securing the production center.

"I'm not a pot guy, but the water's under the bridge. That's not the issue," Maurer told The Oregonian newspaper. "Let's not even discuss that. Let's discuss is the program working? The answer is unequivocally no, that the program is not working."

Oregon voters approved the use of medical marijuana more than a decade ago, deciding chronically and terminally ill patients should be allowed to use the drug to ease pain. Roughly 21,000 Oregonians now have cards authorizing them to use it for medicinal purposes, according to the state Department of Human Services.

Maurer and three co-sponsors think the bill would improve public safety by eliminating private medical-marijuana grow sites. Some private growers have been accused of illegally selling marijuana to those who don't have cards; other sites have been targeted by burglaries and home invasions.

A bill co-sponsor, Rep. Chris Harker, D-Beaverton, told the Statesman Journal newspaper that the measure "takes medical marijuana off the streets and into a safer and more secure environment."

Current law allows registered patients to possess six mature cannabis plants, 18 immature seedlings and 24 ounces of usable cannabis. In 2004, voters rejected a measure that would create state distribution centers.

Though the proposal is considered a longshot at best, it is expected to be heard in a committee.

"When we have bipartisan support like that for a bill, it is typical that it will at least get the courtesy of a hearing," said Geoff Sugerman, spokesman for House Speaker Dave Hunt.

Yay for Oregon! If ALL of the people of this country would get their collective "heads out of their backsides", maybe we would NOT be in the sorry state we are in these days. The past is the past. It is gone, done, over, finito! Start focusing on forward and maybe we can move on to bigger and better things. Oh, and all of YOU (who probably never smoked herb),stop throwing up your weak argument that marijuana "is a gateway drug". If YOU cannot do any better than that, just go away. FAR AWAY!
